COST ACCOUNTANT
Ingersoll, Ontario | Manufacturing
Prime Management Group Inc. is partnering with a well-established manufacturing organization in Ingersoll to recruit a Cost Accountant. This is a hands-on plant accounting role for someone who can turn cost and operational data into clear insight, stronger controls, and better business decisions.
Reporting to the Controller and working closely with Operations, Engineering, and Materials, the Cost Accountant will lead standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, close support, and capital tracking. The successful candidate will be comfortable working across the plant, investigating the numbers behind performance, and recommending practical improvements.
What You Will Do
Standard costing and product profitability
- Maintain the standard cost system, including bill-of-material and routing accuracy, in partnership with Engineering and Operations.
- Complete product costing and contribution-margin analysis, and support quoting and pricing reviews.
- Coordinate periodic standard-cost updates and document key assumptions, including labour, overhead, scrap, burden, and production rates.
Cost and variance analysis
- Analyze material price and usage, labour, overhead absorption, and scrap variances, and clearly communicate the drivers to business leaders.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities and partner with Operations and Materials to implement and track corrective actions.
- Prepare recurring cost and performance reporting that supports operational decision-making.
Inventory and working capital
- Reconcile inventory and ensure accurate valuation, reserves, aging, obsolescence, scrap, and chargeback calculations.
- Support cycle counts and physical inventories, investigating and resolving count and transaction variances.
- Prepare material claims and supporting documentation as required.
Financial reporting and close
- Support month-end and year-end close, including inventory and cost-of-goods-sold entries, accruals, reconciliations, and reporting packages.
- Maintain assigned balance-sheet reconciliations, resolving issues promptly and ensuring complete documentation.
- Review and post accounts-payable batches in accordance with company policies.
- Assist the Controller with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
Capital, compliance, and controls
- Track capital spending, additions, depreciation, and related schedules, and support business cases for new projects.
- Maintain strong documentation and internal controls, and support internal and external audit requests.
- Help ensure compliance with corporate finance policies and applicable plant quality, environmental, and health and safety standards, including IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation, or active progress toward the designation, is an asset.
- Three to five years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing variances, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions; macro experience is an asset.
- Experience with AS400 and CMS400 is preferred.
- A practical, analytical approach and the communication skills to work effectively with both finance and plant teams.
Compensation and Benefits
- $100,000-$110,000 annual salary.
- Variable bonus opportunity.
- Competitive extended health benefits designed to support employee well-being.
