Position Overview


The Assistant Director of the Organizational Behavior Science Doctoral Program supports the academic administration, development, and ongoing operations of the doctoral program within the Institute for Applied Behavioral Science. Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Director provides leadership and coordination in doctoral student advising and mentorship, academic programming, research development, teaching, scholarship, and professional engagement.

 

The Assistant Director serves as a key academic resource for doctoral students throughout their progression in the program, including comprehensive examinations, research development, Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes, dissertation preparation, publication development, and professional presentations. The position also contributes to the broader priorities of the Institute and College through teaching, scholarship, committee service, community engagement, and external relationship development.

 

The Assistant Director will teach four courses annually, at least three of which will be at the doctoral level; advise and mentor a minimum of nine doctoral students; support doctoral student research and professional development; participate in dissertation and academic committees; and contribute to program, department, and College initiatives as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

 

Doctoral Student Advising, Mentorship & Academic Progress (40%)

·         Advise and mentor a minimum of nine doctoral students throughout their academic progression and professional development.

·         Serve as dissertation chair or committee member for assigned doctoral students, including reviewing dissertation proposals and drafts and participating in proposal and defense meetings.

·         Support and evaluate doctoral student readiness for comprehensive examinations in collaboration with appropriate program faculty.

·         Meet individually with assigned doctoral students on a weekly or biweekly basis, as appropriate to student needs and program milestones.

·         Facilitate weekly or biweekly research labs for assigned doctoral students.

·         Provide discipline-specific guidance regarding degree requirements, research development, professional development, and career preparation.

·         Review and support the development of IRB applications and research protocols.

·         Review and support students in developing manuscripts, publications, conference presentations, and other professional dissemination.

·         Help students identify and pursue professional development opportunities aligned with their academic, research, and career goals.

 

Teaching, Research & Scholarship (30%)

·         Teach four courses annually, at least three of which will be at the doctoral level. The remaining course may support departmental or programmatic needs, including master's-level instruction.

·         Develop and deliver high-quality instruction grounded in current research and evidence-based practices in organizational behavior science.

·         Maintain current knowledge of research, scholarship, and professional practices relevant to organizational behavior science, business, leadership, and related fields.

·         Engage in scholarly and professional dissemination through publications, conference presentations, invited presentations, podcasts, webinars, and other appropriate professional forums.

·         Contribute to research and scholarly initiatives within the Institute and support doctoral student engagement in research and dissemination activities.

·         Apply appropriate research methodologies, including single-subject and group experimental designs, to academic and applied research.

 

Program Administration & Development (15%)

·         Support the Dean in the ongoing administration, development, and continuous improvement of the Organizational Behavior Science Doctoral Program.

·         Contribute to the development and implementation of program initiatives that enhance doctoral student learning, research, professional development, and overall student experience.

·         Identify opportunities to strengthen curriculum, academic programming, student support, and professional engagement.

·         Collaborate with faculty and staff to address programmatic needs and support effective communication and coordination.

·         Participate in doctoral program orientation, graduation, and other key academic milestones.

·         Support program-related projects and initiatives as assigned by the Dean.

 

Departmental & Institutional Service (10%)

·         Serve on department, school, and College committees as requested.

·         Participate in departmental, school-wide, and College-sponsored conferences, academic events, and professional development activities.

·         Participate in College-wide events and activities that support the student experience and broader College community, including Commencement, Homecoming, orientation, and other institutional events as appropriate.

·         Collaborate with colleagues across the Institute and College to advance shared academic and institutional priorities.

·         Participate in faculty and staff meetings and other activities necessary to support effective program and departmental operations.

 

External Engagement & Partnerships (5%)

·         Support the Director of Practicum and Immersion Experiences in developing and maintaining relationships with organizations and professionals in the business and applied behavioral science communities.

·         Help identify opportunities for doctoral students to engage in immersions, applied projects, research, professional development, and other experiential learning opportunities.

·         Represent the Institute and the Organizational Behavior Science Doctoral Program professionally with external organizations, community partners, and industry professionals.

·         Contribute to the development of partnerships that strengthen the connection between doctoral education, research, and applied organizational practice.

 

Community Engagement

·         Be an active participant in the life of the College by attending and supporting key events like Commencement, Homecoming, and other all-hands-on-deck gatherings. Show a spirit of collaboration and community involvement, including volunteering when possible.

Qualifications and Skills

·         Doctoral degree in Organizational Behavior Management, Behavior Analysis, Organizational Behavior, Applied Behavioral Science, or a closely related field.

·         Demonstrated expertise in research methodology, including single-subject and group experimental designs.

·         Demonstrated expertise in scientific and scholarly writing and APA style.

·         Advanced expertise in conducting systematic literature reviews, including familiarity with established methodologies such as PRISMA.

·         Experience advising, mentoring, teaching, or otherwise supporting graduate or doctoral students.

·         Demonstrated scholarly or professional engagement in areas related to business, leadership, organizational behavior management, organizational behavior science, or applied behavioral science.

·         Professional experience in business, industry, consulting, research, or applied organizational settings.

·         Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaboratively.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience teaching at the doctoral level.

·         Experience serving as a dissertation chair or committee member.

·         Experience supporting or navigating Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes.

·         Experience with data visualization and statistical software, such as GraphPad Prism, or comparable platforms.

·         Demonstrated record of publications, presentations, or other scholarly dissemination.

·         Experience working across multiple organizational or industry settings, such as healthcare, manufacturing, energy, safety, or other complex environments.

·         Experience developing partnerships with business, industry, community, or professional organizations.

·         Experience supporting doctoral program development, academic administration, or continuous program improvement.

 

In compliance with Massachusetts pay transparency law, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000–$92,000. Endicott College considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant work experience, education, specialized skills, internal equity, and external market data when extending an offer. The final salary is determined by the Human Resources Office based on these factors. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or other compensation.
