Description

Chief of Staff to PS Finance Leader

Description -

PS Finance is a Global Business Unit (GBU) finance organization supporting Personal Systems, partnering with business leaders to share strategy, drive finance performance, manage risk, and enable disciplined execution.

The Chief of Staff is a trusted advisor and operational partner to the Head of PS Finance. The role connects strategy with execution by anticipating needs, simplifying complexity, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring that priorities translate into coordinated action. The Chief of Staff enables the leader and leadership team to operate effectively through clear decision support, disciplined governance, strong communications, and consistent follow-through across a global organization. Operating with a high degree of independence and judgment, the role influences enterprise-level priorities and leads complex, high-visibility initiatives across functions and geographies. The position will be hosted within the hiring manager’s organization, while working directly with the Head of PS Finance to support his priorities and leadership agenda.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning and execution: Partner with PS Finance leadership to define objectives, priorities, measures, and operating plans; provide counsel and influence long-term strategic decision-making; translate strategic direction into clear actions, ownership, and timelines; and monitor progress against agreed outcomes.
  • Project and program oversight: Provide visibility and governance across strategic initiatives and special projects; clarify accountability, track milestones and dependencies, surface risks early, remove roadblocks, and drive disciplined follow-through.
  • Cross-functional alignment: Serve as a trusted connector across Finance, business teams, Human Resources, and other corporate functions; align stakeholders, resolve friction points, and coordinate shared deliverables across organizations and geographies.
  • Decision support and analysis: Synthesize complex financial, operational, and organizational information into concise insights; assess trade-offs; identify blind spots; and present fact-based options and recommendations that enable timely decisions.
  • Executive communications: Develop clear, consistent, and professional messaging for leadership forums, business reviews, organization-wide meetings, and other executive communications; prepare briefings, presentations, talking points, and pre-reads.
  • Meeting and agenda management: Design and manage leadership operating rhythms, agendas, and governance forums; facilitate productive discussions, document decisions, assign actions, and ensure timely closure.
  • Organization and talent enablement: Partner with Finance and Human Resources leaders on organizational planning, workforce and budget coordination, talent reviews, capability development, recognition, engagement, onboarding, and organizational changes.
  • Leadership effectiveness: Help prioritize leadership attention and resources, anticipate emerging needs and issues, protect organizational focus, and ensure important commitments do not fall through the cracks.
  • Operational excellence: Identify, design, lead, and implement process improvements, including automation and digital solutions, that simplify governance, workflows, collaboration, and information flow; increase clarity, responsiveness, and execution efficiency; and enable scalable ways of working.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong business and finance acumen with the ability to connect strategic, financial, operational, organizational, and talent considerations.
  • Strong knowledge of HP’s business, functions, operating model, processes, and policies, with the ability to navigate the organization effectively and connect priorities across teams.
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, maturity, and integrity when handling sensitive information and high-impact decisions.
  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, storytelling, facilitation, and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to synthesize incomplete or complex inputs into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent program and project management skills, with disciplined attention to priorities, ownership, dependencies, risks, actions, and deadlines.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, navigate ambiguity, remain calm under pressure, and act with an appropriate balance of urgency and thoughtful escalation.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across levels, functions, cultures, and geographies, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and initiatives, partner effectively with team members at different levels of experience, provide guidance and coaching, and enable shared ownership and successful delivery.
  • Highly organized, proactive, resourceful, responsive, resilient, and reliable, with a consistent focus on quality and follow-through.
  • Digitally savvy, with advanced proficiency in productivity, collaboration, data analysis, automation, and presentation tools, and the ability to identify and apply emerging technologies to improve business outcomes.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, strategy, operations, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant professional certification is preferred (e.g., CPA, MBA).
  • Typically 10 or more years of experience in finance, strategy, business operations, program management, or a comparable leadership-support role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders and coordinating complex, high-visibility initiatives in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Proven experience translating strategy into execution, managing executive operating rhythms, and leading projects from definition through delivery and closure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvement and transformation initiatives, including workflow simplification, automation, and adoption of digital tools.
  • Experience with financial planning, performance management, organizational planning, and executive-level communications is preferred.
