Description
You will regularly use a computer, phone, and forklift to support daily warehouse operations. A meaningful part of this role involves planning and scheduling — forecasting needs, ordering supplies, and staging materials so field technicians can depart on time without interruption.
Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, and collaboration with internal teams, technicians, and vendors.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Receive and properly store incoming products and merchandise; enter receivables into computer inventory and billing systems
- Process supply requests, prepare merchandise for delivery, and pack shipments according to established procedures
- Maintain accurate records and reports to support tight inventory control and security
- Conduct physical inventories and perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking as needed
- Safely and efficiently operate all warehouse equipment, including a forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck, following prescribed work methods
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Deliver outstanding service in every interaction with internal and external customers
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior warehouse training or experience is preferred but not required
- 2 to 3 years of customer-facing experience with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow basic safety procedures and precautions in a physically active environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Proficiency with or the proven ability to learn computer systems, including MS Office and warehouse and inventory management software
- Experience with, and the ability to safely operate, material handling equipment such as a forklift and pallet jack
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as a strong team member
- Comfortable adapting to shifting priorities and working under tight deadlines
- Strong sense of urgency with keen attention to detail, quality, accuracy, and organization
- Ability to detect color (color vision)
- Ability to obtain and maintain Smithville's forklift certification
- Ability to take and pass a drug test and background check
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
This position is primarily indoors, with approximately 75% of work completed in a climate-controlled environment and 25% outdoors in all weather conditions or in an enclosed vehicle or temporary shelter. Some tasks may take place above ground level on ladders, rooftops, bucket trucks, or scaffolding.
The standard schedule is 40 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime, evening, or weekend hours to meet critical deadlines or respond to operational needs.
This role requires continuous use of fine motor skills and close vision. You can expect frequent walking, climbing of stairs and ladders, reaching at and above shoulder level, lifting up to 30 pounds, as well as regular talking and hearing. Occasional duties may involve sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, twisting, pulling, and lifting over 50 pounds.
