A Brief Overview
Plans, coordinates and supervises under the guidance of leadership of Laboratory Services; responsible for the effective utilization of available human, technical and material resources in providing timely, quality clinical laboratory test results within the clinical laboratories. Maintains competence on all tests/instruments in their area of responsibility.
What you will do
- Supervises and coordinates all human, technical and material resources, environmental, customer support and technical aspects relating to the overall development, operation and financial accountability of the assigned Laboratory group. May supervise and coordinate other Laboratory groups as delegated to assure quality Laboratory services.
- Works in collaboration with other laboratory groups, pathologists, Avera Laboratory Network, outreach clients, hospital departments and services to assure quality services are provided for all patients and customers.
- Assures service quality and cost-effectiveness through development, implementation and supervision of the assigned staff, supply resource utilization/control, policy/procedures, quality assurance/process improvement, regulatory and accreditation compliance. Provides technical information, feedback, and recommendations to the appropriate requesting healthcare professionals.
- As delegated, provides outreach client advisor and retention support. Attends Avera Laboratory Network meetings as requested.
- Serves as a primary resource person for the assigned laboratory group. Remains visible within the healthcare community and the laboratory profession through organizational and professional networking affiliations and activities.
- As requested, assists other Laboratory administrative management supervisory staff and pathologists with overall administration/management of laboratory services. As delegated, assumes management and/or administrative responsibility for the Laboratory Department.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Science degree or
- Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical Technologist degree
- MLS - American Medical Technologists (AMT) Upon Hire
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- 1-3 years Previous supervisory and financial management experience
