We are seeking an experienced CNC Toolmaker to work from blueprints, drawings, models, and/or sketches to repair tools for production of die casting molds, trim dies, and tooling fixtures.
ESSENTITAL DUTIES:
- CNC Programming: Write, edit, and optimize 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC programs (milling, turning, vertical machining centers) using Mastercam.
- Workholding & Fixtures: Design or collaborate on the development of custom workholding, hydraulic/pneumatic fixtures, tailored to die-cast parts.
- Process Setup & Optimization: Establish optimal speeds, feeds, tool paths, and tooling selections to maximize throughput, tool life, and yield while minimizing cycle times and scrap rates.
- Setup: Competent in the setup of all necessary fixturing, tooling, and inputting offsets to machine control.
- First-Article Inspection & GD&T: Prove out new CNC programs on the shop floor, conducting first-article inspections using precision measuring equipment (CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges) to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot machining issues (e.g., chatter, tool wear, part deflection, etc) and update existing programs to improve machine uptime and part quality.
- Tooling Management: Select and standardize cutting tools, inserts, holders, and coolants best suited for non-ferrous alloys (aluminum, zinc).
- Documentation & Safety: Create setup sheets, tool lists, operator instruction manuals, and maintain organized program revision control in compliance with ISO/IATF quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience: 3-5+ years of experience programming CNC machining centers in a production manufacturing environment.
- CAM/CAD Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency in Mastercam CAD software
- Code Knowledge: Strong understanding of G-code and M-code editing at the machine control (Fanuc, Brother)
- GD&T Expertise: Excellent ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
- Tooling Knowledge: Proven experience selecting cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and coolants specifically for non-ferrous metals (aluminum, zinc).
