The Team: The candidate will be part of the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG) which is responsible for the maintenance and calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices which includes a wide range of high-profile indices globally.

The Impact: The Index Manager role will be part of the Index Management and Production Group (“IMPG”) at S&P Global. The team is responsible for the production and management of a wide range of indices covering global options, equities, futures, fixed income, commodity, digital assets and economics indices. This specific role will focus on the management and oversight of Equity indices, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the indices through thorough research and analysis.

What’s in it for you:

  • You will work collaboratively with a wide range of indices across global markets and must be able to analyze and implement complex index methodology and solve non-routine problems on an on-going basis. The Senior Index Manager is responsible for all aspects of an assigned group of indices and as part of that responsibility, makes recommendations for index membership and presents changes to the index committee.
  • You will manage and participate in global projects.

Responsibilities:

Index Manager will be required to:

  • Ensure corporate actions of company constituents in each assigned index are correctly applied in SPDJI proprietary system according to index methodology and validate special treatment for index specific items.
  • Perform analytical research on companies to determine the composition of assigned indices, interpreting complex index methodology and adjusting data in our calculation system, and adjusting data to conform to the rules of the index.
  • Perform index rebalances by interpreting index methodology, running models and research for adds/drops, implementing changes and communicating these appropriately to clients, all with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Serve on the index committees and make presentations of original, non-routine analysis to committee in support of the indices for which the index manager is responsible.
  • Take responsibility for the management of high-profile indices, acting as a subject matter expert and displaying in-depth knowledge of our product lines.
  • Manage and maintain key relationships with other groups within the department and across other departments, particularly Product Management, Client Coverage, Index Services and IT Support.
  • Work in close coordination with the technology group and production support group to further enhance our system capabilities.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation.
  • Must have the ability to train new and current employees on best-practices for index management.
  • Preparing and delivering announcements as they relate to index changes to clients and end users in advance of the implementation of the changes.
  • Update index methodology on an as-needed basis in coordination with other S&P staff and the index committee to ensure indices remain relevant and investible.
  • Work with internal teams to oversee the launch of new indices.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, with a focus in math, economics, or finance or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience working directly with Equity Indices, asset management, trade operations or related roles.
  • A demonstrable understanding of global financial markets, particularly the Equity market dynamics, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of Python & experience with process automation is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with a strong sense of initiative.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities on large data sets to solve problems in a timely and insightful manner.
  • Ability to learn S&P DJI’s proprietary index calculation platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and/or groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • CFA or progress toward CFA and/or CIPM certification a plus.
  • Experience working with index management or financial data services.
  • Familiarity with S&P DJI’s index methodologies and processes.
  • Experience collaborating with global teams and managing multiple projects.
