Description
About Johnson Controls
Thermal constraints limit AI infrastructure, semiconductor equipment, power electronics, and defense systems. Johnson Controls removes those constraints. Enabled by the Stack Forging™ process, JCI produces high-performance thermal components and cooling loop solutions designed for direct integration into AI, HPC, and mission-critical systems. JCI has built an industry-leading thermal management platform for the applications that demand it most.
As a Builder on the Stack Forging Thermal Solutions team at Johnson Controls, you'll join a highly collaborative group that sets a high bar for technical excellence. We foster a culture with no silos, where ideas are shared openly and innovation comes from every level of the organization. If you are passionate about solving complex technical challenges and enjoy turning ideas into production-ready solutions, you'll thrive on this team.
What You Will Do
You will serve as the technical leader for JCI's computational geometry and manufacturing software platform, working with an interdisciplinary team to define, design, develop, and maintain critical software systems throughout their lifecycle. You will help shape the technical roadmap, translate manufacturing needs into software solutions, and guide engineers developing next-generation tools that directly support the Stack Forging process.
Because your users and stakeholders are onsite, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with manufacturing, process, machine, and thermal engineers while seeing the direct impact of your work on production and product performance.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs.
- Own the architecture and long-term technical roadmap of the Stack Forging software platform, aligned with manufacturing and business objectives.
- Design and implement 3D geometry and slicing algorithms that improve part accuracy, quality, and process robustness.
- Develop 2D toolpath and path-planning algorithms to increase manufacturing throughput and efficiency.
- Contribute to automated inspection and quality-control tooling, comparing scanned layer images against intended geometry to identify defects and process deviations.
- Lead system specifications, technical design reviews, and code reviews while helping validate the work of other engineers.
- Take products and features from concept and requirements through prototyping, development, testing, and production deployment.
- Ensure performance, correctness, maintainability, and testability of core software systems.
- Partner closely with process, machine, and thermal-design engineers to translate manufacturing requirements into scalable software solutions.
- Represent the software platform across engineering disciplines and business stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach engineers while helping drive best practices in software development.
- Participate in the team's agile development process and collaborate with external developers as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- 6+ years of industry experience building, testing, and shipping high-quality production software.
- 4+ years of experience in computational geometry, algorithms, or a related field such as CAD, CAM, simulation, graphics, or manufacturing software.
- Strong background in object-oriented software development; C++ experience preferred.
- Experience with software architecture, system design, and technical decision-making.
- Proven ability to drive complex technical initiatives and influence across teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance long-term strategy and near-term execution.
- Experience developing software in a production agile environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
Preferred
- Master's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience architecting software systems with consideration for user workflows, scalability, and process data flow.
- Experience developing and debugging software on Linux environments.
- Experience with multithreaded applications, performance optimization, and modern software design practices.
- Experience with geometry kernels or mesh libraries such as CGAL, OpenMesh, or VTK.
- Experience with image processing and analysis technologies, including OpenCV or similar frameworks.
- Experience in additive manufacturing, industrial inspection, 3D CAD tools, CAM systems, motion planning, robotics, or industrial control systems.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a strong bias for action.
