Description
This role supports the College of Engineering’s communications function through development of research-based content and supporting the coordination and administrative processes required for content delivery.
Working closely with the Head of Communications, the role contributes to translating scientific and engineering concepts into accessible content, while supporting content pipelines, stakeholder coordination, and operational tasks across multiple schools.
The position complements digital and design functions by supporting content development, organisation, and workflow management to enable consistent and timely communications outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
Scientific Content Development, Research Translation, & Writing
Pitch, research, write, and edit technical stories, features, and profiles on faculty, students, research projects, and publications
Conduct interviews with researchers and translate complex scientific concepts into clear, structured narratives
Ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and alignment with editorial standards
Provide scientific, research and academic insight for team members and copy/content reviews as assigned
Content Pipeline & Stakeholder Engagement
Assist in the development of content pipeline system and campaigns
Proactively identify and track potential content opportunities
Maintain and update a centralised content pipeline tracker (stories in progress, upcoming opportunities, deadlines)
Follow up with stakeholders to gather inputs, materials, and approvals
Stakeholder Coordination & Administrative Support
Coordinate interviews with faculty and researchers (scheduling, preparation, follow-ups)
Manage communication with stakeholders to collect drafts, images, and approvals
Support organisation of meetings, editorial calendars, and content planning sessions
Publication Support
Support preparation of content for website, newsletter, and publications
Assist with proofreading, fact-checking, and editorial refinement
Contribute to development of longer-form outputs (e.g. Annual Magazine, features)
Ad Hoc Duties May Include:
Communications calendar and scheduling support, including coordination of timelines, deadlines, and content planning
Content intake and documentation, ensuring materials received from stakeholders are complete, organised, and ready for use
Preparation of analytics inputs and basic reporting, including data gathering from digital platforms
Assist in website maintenance and update
General, digital and design function support as needed
IDEAL PROFILE
A background in science, engineering, or research combined with a strong interest in science communication or journalism; OR a background in science communication or journalism with a strong interest in science, engineering, or research; OR a combined background in both areas
Ability to understand and interpret technical material
Strong writing skills with attention to clarity and accuracy
Understanding of what makes a good narrative
Charismatic and comfortable engaging with academic stakeholders
Organised and detail-oriented, with ability to manage multiple inputs
