Community Services Officer I
Hourly Part-Time | Limited term approx. 6 months non-benefited position
Join the City of Winters and support services that make a difference in the community! The City is seeking a part-time, limited-term Community Services Officer I to assist with law related office duties and field work.
About the Position
The Community Services Officer series. Employees perform routine tasks with direct supervision and guidance.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Community Services Officer I: This is the Community Services Officer series. The performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series who will receive more direct supervision and guidance to complete tasks. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same level of independence and judgment beyond routine matters with established procedures.
Supervision
Immediate Supervision is provided by the Administrative Coordinator, or his/her designee, except for Code Compliance, which falls under the Administrative Sergeant.
Examples of Duties
Depending on assignment, duties may include:
- Records: Answer telephones and provide counter assistance to the public.
- Property & Evidence: Assist in the collection, preservation and transportation of evidence.
- Crime Prevention: Develop program outlines and materials for presentations to neighborhood and community groups.
- Patrol: Perform traffic control at special events or incidents.
- Crime Analysis: Assist in producing monthly, quarterly and yearly crime statistics reports.
- Parking Enforcement: Issue citations or warning notices for California Vehicle Code or City Ordinance parking violations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of
- Office and telephone procedures and practices.
- Customer relations and service skills.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the tasks to which assigned.
Ability to
- Type accurately at a speed of 40 words per minute.
- Compile information and prepare reports accurately and efficiently.
- Work flexible shifts based on the staffing needs of the department.
- Think and act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency situations.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Clerical, typing, computer experience and bilingual abilities preferred.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a CLETS certification.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Indoor and outdoor environments; work alone; travel from site to site; incumbents may be exposed to noise, dust, inclement weather conditions, and potentially hostile environments.
