Job Description
Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a Post Doc to support innovative research in artificial intelligence, wearable sensing technologies, and digital health. The Post Doc will contribute to externally funded research focused on the development of next-generation AI-enabled wearable technologies for human movement analysis. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, clinical partners, and research staff while advancing machine learning methodologies, publishing scholarly work, mentoring graduate students, and supporting future research initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee the development of the next-generation AI-Sole, AI-enabled instrumented insoles for stride-by-stride spatiotemporal and kinetic gait monitoring in natural environments, leading data processing efforts.
- Develop and apply supervised machine learning regression models to identify spatiotemporal and kinetic digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) reflecting walking function and evaluate their clinometric properties.
- Collaborate with clinical partners and participate in project meetings.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present research at national and international conferences.
- Supervise graduate students and contribute to grant writing.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, wearable sensing technologies, biomechanics, digital health, or related disciplines.
- Experience developing and validating machine learning models for biomedical or human movement applications.
- Strong programming and data analysis skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong publication record.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with wearable sensor data and gait analysis.
- Familiarity with supervised learning methods and statistical model validation.
- Experience collaborating with clinical researchers or healthcare partners.
- Prior experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated success contributing to grant proposals or externally funded research.

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the semi-monthly base range for this position is 2,645.00- 2,645.00. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
