Organisation: Housing Plus Group
Salary: £49,200 per annum
Location: Telford / hybrid working, minimum one day per week in the office
Working Pattern: 36 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity to join Housing Plus Group and play an important role in the financial management of its Care & Support services.
Housing Plus Group is seeking an Accountant - Care & Support to provide high-quality financial management, insight and control across its care entities, Housing for Older People services and, where required, the landlord entity. Reporting to the Head of Finance - Care & Support, the postholder will support robust financial planning, accurate reporting and effective decision-making across the Care & Support Directorate.
The role combines management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, business partnering and team leadership. It offers the opportunity to work closely with operational teams, translate complex financial information for non-finance colleagues and contribute to business cases, service reviews, transformation projects, bids and tenders within the care domain.

The Role
The Accountant - Care & Support will support the Head of Finance - Care & Support in delivering timely and accurate management accounts for the Care business stream and Housing for Older People services, ensuring that variances are understood and clearly explained.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted financial partner to budget holders and operational teams, providing clear financial insight, supporting annual budget setting and in-year forecasting, identifying risks and opportunities, and preparing scenario modelling to inform strategic decisions.
The role also includes supporting year-end and audit activity, assisting with statutory financial statements for Choices Housing Association and Care Plus while they remain separate legal entities, strengthening financial controls, and managing and developing a small team of Assistant Accountants.
Key Areas of Responsibility Will Include:
- Preparing accurate and timely management accounts for the Care business stream and Housing for Older People services.
- Explaining financial performance and variances clearly to budget holders and operational colleagues.
- Providing business partnering support and high-quality financial insight to enable effective decision-making.
- Supporting annual budget setting, in-year forecasting and financial management against budget.
- Identifying financial risks and opportunities and preparing scenario modelling for the Care & Support Directorate.
- Supporting year-end procedures, audit preparation, working papers and liaison with external auditors.
- Assisting with statutory financial statements for Choices Housing Association and Care Plus.
- Preparing financial information for business cases, service reviews and transformation projects.
- Assisting with bids and tenders for services within the care domain.
- Ensuring compliance with financial procedures, controls and relevant housing and care regulatory requirements.
- Managing and developing a small team of Assistant Accountants, allocating workload and supporting continuous improvement.
- Promoting a collaborative and supportive culture across the wider Finance function.
About You
We are looking for a collaborative and commercially aware finance professional who can combine strong technical capability with clear communication, sound judgement and effective stakeholder engagement.
You Will Need To Demonstrate:
- Active study towards a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, or at least three years in a senior finance role alongside AAT qualification.
- Strong technical financial expertise and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent awareness of designing and implementing financial controls.
- Experience of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and explaining financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- The ability to communicate complex information clearly and accessibly to a range of audiences.
- Strong collaboration, negotiating and influencing skills.
- The ability to work independently, at pace and to tight deadlines.
- A sound understanding of the challenges facing the housing sector and the relevant regulatory and legal environment.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Experience within the Finance function of a care environment, including care-contract bids and tenders, would be advantageous. Knowledge of CQC compliance issues with financial consequences, team management experience, and experience working with IT teams to improve financial processes and automation would also be beneficial.
