The Opportunity
Allegro MicroSystems is a global leader in power and sensing semiconductor solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Assurance & Failure Analysis Engineer to serve as a key technical representative for our Global Quality Assurance Department in the Japanese market.
In this high-visibility role, you will bridge the gap between our U.S. headquarters and our valued Japanese customers, particularly within the fast-evolving automotive sector. Operating at the intersection of hands-on technical failure analysis and customer relationship management, you will support new business development, drive quality improvements, and ensure our industry-leading power and Hall-effect IC products meet the highest standards of reliability.
What You Will Do
First-Level Failure Analysis: Perform hands-on, first-level failure analysis (FA), including bench-level electrical characterization and diagnostic testing on returned integrated circuits (ICs).
Advanced & Destructive FA Coordination: Coordinate and manage specialized, destructive physical analysis (DPA) and advanced analytical testing with trusted third-party laboratories.
Technical Reporting: Author comprehensive, highly detailed failure analysis reports, translating complex laboratory data into clear, actionable findings and root-cause explanations.
Customer Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical quality contact for customers in Japan, presenting FA findings and explaining technical root causes clearly and confidently.
Root-Cause & Corrective Actions: Collaborate closely with Customer Quality Engineering (CQE) and global teams to drive systematic root-cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Quality Tool Utilization: Build and utilize quality methodologies such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Ishikawa (Fishbone) diagrams, 5 Why, and 8D frameworks to resolve complex issues.
What You Will Need
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
2+ years of engineering experience within the Japanese automotive industry (or a closely related high-reliability market).
2+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor failure analysis or electronic component analysis.
2+ years of experience working within a global, multinational company.
Native-level Japanese and business-level English (both written and spoken) to effectively collaborate across regional offices.
3+ years of engineering experience within the semiconductor industry (e.g., wafer fabrication, IC packaging, assembly, or test engineering).
Direct experience with semiconductor FA tools and techniques, such as mold resin decapsulation, micro-probing, emission microscopy (EMMI), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), and layer-by-layer deprocessing.
Proven ability to correlate physical and chemical failure analysis results with electrical failures and circuit schematics.
Practical knowledge of quality tools including 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for compiling reports and metrics.
