Description
Description
WHO WE ARE
Sherman + Reilly, Inc. is a Chattanooga-based manufacturer of tools and equipment for the electric utility industry, serving utility companies, cooperatives, and line contractors around the world. As part of the Quanta Services family of companies, we combine over a century of industry expertise with the resources and stability of a global infrastructure leader. Our products are designed, engineered, and manufactured here — by a team that takes genuine pride in what comes off the production floor.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Sherman + Reilly is standing up a category management function, and we are hiring the person who will own castings. You will take full ownership of our casting and molded component supply base: aluminum, bronze, steel and ductile iron castings, urethane-lined castings, and molded plastics, rubber and urethane, along with the patterns and tooling behind them. The role is based on site at our Chattanooga, TN manufacturing facility. This seat is deliberately different from a standard category manager role. You would keep the tactical purchasing for your own category instead of handing it off to a buyer, which means you own both the sourcing strategy and the daily material availability for the same parts. Castings are a technically demanding, tooling-intensive commodity with long lead times, so this seat rewards someone who wants deep supplier and process knowledge.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own the casting and molded component category end to end, from supplier strategy through daily purchase order execution.
- Qualify and develop foundries to build depth and capability across the supply base.
- Lead RFQs, should-cost analysis, negotiations and long-term agreements, including capacity commitments on long-lead castings.
- Keep production supplied: run MRP output for your category, resolve shortages, and hold suppliers to the dates they commit to.
- Own the pattern and tooling record for the category, including ownership, location and condition.
- Partner with Engineering early in new product development, bringing foundry capability, manufacturability and tooling cost into the conversation before designs are locked.
- Work with Quality on supplier qualification, first-article submissions and corrective action.
Requirements
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on casting procurement experience.
- Five or more years in procurement, sourcing or category management in a manufacturing environment, including responsibility for castings or other tooled commodities.
- ERP/MRP experience and strong Excel skills for spend, lead-time and supplier analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and material specifications, and to hold technically credible conversations with foundry engineering and quality personnel.
- Direct foundry experience, or experience sourcing sand-cast, low-pressure or permanent mold aluminum, bronze or ductile iron castings.
- Willingness to work on-site in Chattanooga with supplier travel roughly 15 to 20 percent of the time.
Preferred
- Proven negotiation experience on tooled, long-lead components, including long-term agreements, capacity commitments and tooling cost.
- Experience with supplier qualification frameworks such as PPAP, FAI, process flow and control plans, and with formal corrective-action systems.
- SAP experience, ideally SAP Business ByDesign or SAP S/4HANA
- CPSM, CPIM or equivalent supply chain certification.
WHY SHERMAN + REILLY
- Genuine ownership: this is a new seat in a new function, so you will define how the category gets run rather than inherit someone else's playbook.
- A product that matters: utility infrastructure is the backbone of the grid, and our equipment is on job sites every day.
- Chattanooga, TN — consistently recognized for quality of life, outdoor recreation, and a lower cost of living than major metro markets.
- Quanta Services company — the stability and benefits of a large organization with the culture and decision-making speed of a smaller team.
- A team being built rather than maintained: we are actively investing in category management capability, analytics and process improvement, with room to grow as the function matures.
- Competitive compensation and benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
