 Job Role: Logistics Coordinator – 3PL Broker

Classification: Regular, Full-Time | Salary, Exempt from Overtime

Department: 400 - Operations

Yard: HQ – Pendleton, IN 

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with rotational weekend on-call coverage to support operational needs.

Supervisor: Third-Party Logistics Manager.

Position Overview: The Logistics Coordinator – 3rd Party Broker serves as a critical operational link between the Company, our customers, and third-party logistics partners. This role proactively manages third-party carriers, loads, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation operations.


The Logistics Coordinator plays a hands-on role in planning, organizing, and coordinating day-to-day carrier activities across multiple geographic regions. This position requires strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship management skills, as well as the ability to manage a fast-paced logistics environment with a focus on Safety, Service, Productivity, and Cost Management. This role suits a self-motivated logistics professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is comfortable making real-time operational decisions to support customer needs and business objectives.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Partner with internal teams, customers, and third-party carriers to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective transportation services.
  • Continuously build, maintain, and manage a nationwide third-party carrier network.
  • Direct daily assignment of loads to third-party carriers based on available capacity, customer demand, service requirements, and current market conditions.
  • Continuously monitor current transportation market conditions and independently source and price freight based on real-time carrier capacity, lane conditions, seasonal trends, fuel costs, and other market factors.
  • Obtain, evaluate, negotiate, and establish competitive transportation rates by sourcing the current market and identifying available carrier capacity.
  • Maintain real-time situational awareness of the logistics landscape to proactively address operational challenges and changing market conditions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for third-party carriers and customers, ensuring clear, timely communication.
  • Represent the Company in dealings with new and existing customers and establish accurate billing rates in internal systems.
  • Make critical decisions to keep operations efficient and effective, including determining appropriate responses to urgent and emerging situations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company performance standards, safety requirements, and applicable policies and procedures.
  • Uphold and maintain the highest standards of the Company’s vision, mission, and core values.
  • Lead by example in adherence to all Company policies, processes, and procedures in accordance with the Employee Manual and Safety Manual.
  • Provide effective problem-solving and conflict resolution support among carriers, drivers, customers, and internal leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to logistics efficiency, carrier performance, market pricing, and cost management.
  • Attend all required Company meetings and training sessions. Participate in training others as needed.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through proactive communication and issue resolution.
  • Be available as needed to support logistics operations, including after-hours or urgent operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, transportation coordination, brokerage, or supply chain operations preferred.
  • Experience managing third-party carriers and freight brokerage operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of transportation operations, load planning, carrier management, freight pricing, and current transportation market conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently source the current transportation market, identify available carrier capacity, obtain competitive rates, and negotiate pricing with third-party carriers.
  • Ability to evaluate market conditions and make informed pricing decisions based on capacity, lane demand, seasonality, equipment availability, and other relevant transportation factors.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple shipments and operational demands simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make time-sensitive operational decisions.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with logistics systems, transportation management systems (TMS), and related software tools preferred.
