Public Works Maintenance Worker II

The City is seeking a skilled and dependable Public Works Maintenance Worker II to join our Public Works team. This position offers an opportunity to perform meaningful work that helps maintain the City's infrastructure and ensures essential public services remain safe, reliable, and operational for the community.

Under general supervision, the Public Works Maintenance Worker II performs a full range of skilled maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of the City's sewer collection system, including sewer mains, laterals, manholes, cleanouts, and related facilities. You may also assist with training and providing guidance to Public Works Maintenance Worker I employees and performs other related duties as assigned.The Public Works Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. Operates specialized sewer collection equipment and vehicles, performs preventative and corrective maintenance, responds to system emergencies, and maintains accurate records of work performed. Provides assistance and field guidance to less experienced staff and performs assigned work independently in accordance with applicable safety requirements, regulations, and City procedures. This classification is distinguished from the next lower classification of Public Works Maintenance Worker I by the performance of more complex, semi-skilled and skilled tasks.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least two (2) years full time work experience in construction, maintenance, or related work
• Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license, or equivalent from another state
• A Class A or B California driver's license may be required for some positions; City will provide training program if applicable to assist in obtaining required license

Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. The examination process may consist of the following parts:

• Application Package Review (Qualifying only): Only the most qualified applicants, based upon the information provided on the application will be invited to participate in the examination processes.  
• In-Person Performance Exam: 100% weight value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.

The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.

Applicants may be eligible for Veteran’s Preference Points (5 points) and should attach a DD214 to their employment application for consideration of this preference.
