Job Title: Standards Development Manager
Location: Covent Garden, London
Work Model: Hybrid
As a Standards Development Manager, you will play a key role in shaping standards that help protect people, improve products and services, and support trusted practices across a wide range of sectors.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to build influential professional networks, manage varied and meaningful projects, and contribute to work that has national and international impact.
About the role:
In this diverse and dynamic role, you’ll manage national and international standards committees, drive strategic initiatives, and engage with industry leaders to influence best practices across industry sectors. You’ll be right at the heart of how BSI operates as a National Standards Body, helping to set the guidelines for how others work across the globe.
You'll facilitate discussions, build consensus, oversee standards development projects, engage with external stakeholders, and help identify opportunities for new standards that deliver positive outcomes for society.
This is not a technical regulatory or auditing role, and previous standards experience is not required. Instead, we're looking for someone with excellent stakeholder engagement, strong project management and facilitation skills to be able lead a diverse portfolio of standards committees and projects.
Responsibilities:
Manage a portfolio of standards committees, projects, and programmes across safety, food and healthcare-related sectors.
Engage with key stakeholders—including industry experts, government bodies, and trade associations.
Drive strategic development, identifying opportunities for new standards and expanding BSI’s influence in the sector.
Represent the UK internationally, providing expert input on European and global standardisation efforts.
Monitor sector developments and emerging trends to help shape future standards and priorities.
Ensure timely project delivery, overseeing workflows and collaborating with internal teams, including Content, Marketing, and Policy.
Provide expert guidance to committee chairs, participants, and stakeholders, facilitating discussions and building consensus.
What we’re looking for:
We're open-minded about your background. Experience in volunteer membership management and sector knowledge of safety, food or healthcare can be beneficial but is not essential.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate the following:
Strong communication and facilitation skills – comfortable leading groups, hosting workshops, and representing the UK at panels or conferences.
Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to build credible relationships with a wide range of professionals, drawing out contributions and managing differing opinions constructively.
Project management skills – capable of juggling multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders with meticulous attention to detail.
Proactivity and autonomy – you’ll take ownership of your own portfolio, so a self-starter attitude is key.
Agility and curiosity – you’ll be adaptable to change whilst demonstrating a willingness to learn.
Our benefits:
BSI offers a competitive total reward package, an independent and varied job in an international environment, flexible working hours, ongoing training and development with the inclusion of; 27-days annual leave, paid sick leave, bank holidays, health insurance, life insurance, pension plan with company contribution, income protection, paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, paid parental leave, adoption leave, compassionate leave, paid bereavement leave, learning and development opportunities, and a wide range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your lifestyle.
The salary for this position is up to £42,400 per annum; actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to; candidate competencies, level of experience, education, location, divisional budget and internal peer compensation comparisons.
*Please note: BSI are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this vacancy.
