Description
Are you excited by the move from chatbots to reliable, production-grade AI agents? Do you enjoy turning emerging AI capabilities into customer experiences that are useful, safe, measurable, and genuinely scalable?
Join the Generators squad in If’s Oasis tribe and help shape the next generation of digital customer experiences in insurance.
Our GenAI-powered assistant is live across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, helping thousands of customers every month across web and app. Now we are expanding across the whole Nordics and evolving the assistant from a strong conversational experience into a more personalized, connected, and action-oriented AI product.
You will be central to that journey: designing, building, evaluating, and operating AI systems that can use internal knowledge and APIs responsibly to help customers get the right guidance at the right moment.
About the role
As our Senior GenAI Specialist, you will be a hands-on engineer in the Generators squad. You will support technical direction while building production systems alongside the team.
You will work across the full lifecycle of our AI capabilities, from agent design and retrieval to evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Your work will include, among other things:
Designing and building production-grade agentic workflows, including tool and API use, orchestration, context management, grounding, guardrails, and safe fallback or handover paths.
Integrating AI systems with internal APIs, data sources, and customer journeys, and building reliable data-ingestion, retrieval, and grounding pipelines that enable relevant and personalized support.
Establishing the evaluation, testing, and observability practices needed to operate reliable AI systems, measuring quality, safety, task completion, latency, cost, and failure modes, and using those insights to support controlled self-improvement over time.
Setting technical direction and making sound architectural decisions across models, frameworks, data, security, reliability, and platform design.
Working closely with the Product Owner, engineers, and business stakeholders to turn customer problems into technically credible, high-value solutions, while raising the team’s technical bar through hands-on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Your primary location will be If’s office in Ballerup, where we work in a hybrid setup with fixed team days onsite. Business travel is a part of the role, and you can expect approximately 2–10 travel days per year. This includes visits to Nordic markets for collaboration and rollouts, as well as occasional trips to our office in Kuala Lumpur.
We offer
While we set high expectations for you as an employee, we also expect you to set high expectations for us as your employer. Here are some of the benefits of working at If:
An including work environment where everyone is welcome
Career and development opportunities in the biggest insurance company in the Nordics
Social activities, as well as highly skilled professional environment
Possibility of a hybrid workplace
A health-promoting workplace with e.g., fitness programs and various sports activities
Attractive insurance benefits and pension
About the team
You will be a hands-on squad member in Generators, an agile team that builds customer-facing solutions driven by real user insights. We work with a clear build, measure, learn mindset and continuously validate what creates the most value for our customers.
Collaboration, code quality, and a team-first mindset matter deeply to us. You will work closely with colleagues across engineering, product, and business to turn ambitious AI opportunities into reliable customer experiences.
Who are you?
You are a senior engineer who is deeply curious about the fast-moving AI landscape but grounded in the discipline required to ship reliable products. You enjoy building, testing, measuring, and improving systems in production.
You are a true team player who enjoys lifting others and driving shared technical excellence. You are curious, pragmatic, and unafraid to challenge both technical and business assumptions. Switching between hands-on coding, architectural thinking, and stakeholder dialogue feels natural to you, and you thrive in a cross-Nordic, cross-functional, and hybrid working environment.
You likely bring:
Proven experience building and deploying LLM-powered or agentic systems in production, with senior hands-on Python engineering skills. This includes practical experience with patterns such as tool use, orchestration, routing, state management, guardrails, agent harness, and human-in-the-loop flows.
Experience integrating AI solutions with production APIs, internal data, and business-critical systems, together with strong knowledge of RAG, retrieval pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and grounding strategies.
Experience working with databases and data platforms such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Databricks, including deploying, managing, and integrating them in production environments.
Experience designing AI evaluations, test suites, quality metrics, feedback loops, and production monitoring, including tracing, prompt and version tracking, quality monitoring, latency, cost, and incident analysis.
Strong cloud and software-engineering practices, including Azure, CI/CD, IaC, Git, security, and reliable API design.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly, challenge assumptions constructively, and turn technical complexity into clear guidance for developers and business stakeholders.
Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, Azure, Langfuse/LangSmith, or comparable tools is valuable, but we care more about your engineering judgment and production experience than loyalty to a specific framework.
