Principal Engineer

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Investment Solutions team within Wealth & Investment Management Technology (WIMT). The ideal candidate is a proactive and driven engineer with strong development fundamentals, a passion for innovation, and a track record of delivering results. In this role, you will:

• Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups

• Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking

• Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions

• Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization

• Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

• 7+ years experience in Spring Boot (Java ecosystem) or ASP.NET Core (.Net)

• 5+ years experience in React or Angular

• 3+ years experience providing vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

• 2+ years of MongoDB or other No SQL database

• 1 year experience with AI Assisted Development (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Devin, Claude, etc)

Desired Qualifications:

• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence technical decisions.

• Strong collaboration skills with product owners, architects, developers, QA teams, and business stakeholders.

• Ability to work effectively in geographically distributed and cross-functional Agile teams.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on identifying scalable solutions.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and engineering practices.

• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and commitment to delivering high-quality results.

• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to reliability, stability, security, and operational excellence.

Pay range:

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
