Description
Overview
Industry: Aerospace/Defense
Position: Senior Quality Engineer
Location: Auburn, AL
Duration: 1 Year Initial Duration
Frequency: Full-time, Contract -to-Perm
Pay Range: $45.00-$60.00 B.O.E.
The Opportunity
A major additive manufacturing aerospace facility in Auburn, AL, is scaling 3D-printed parts from qualified designs into full-rate, high-volume production. Parts have already cleared NPI, and as production ramps up, the role calls for a Senior Quality Engineer who's comfortable navigating the process changes, planning updates, and engineering revisions that come naturally with scaling manufacturing.
This is a highly autonomous role for an experienced QE who can take true ownership of a high-volume part number - managing its quality plan, working daily issues to resolution, and partnering with technical and manufacturing teams with minimal day-to-day oversight. You'll be in the middle of the action: working the floor, the data, and the paperwork to keep production moving without sacrificing quality.
What You Must Bring
- Solid working proficiency in PolyWorks and CMM programming/data analysis - this is used daily for dimensional verification and is not something we can train from scratch.
- Hands-on experience with CT (computed tomography) inspection for internal/dimensional verification of additively manufactured parts.
- Real experience with Material Review Board (MRB) processes - dispositioning nonconformances, working cross-functionally, and keeping production unblocked.
- Hands-on familiarity with powder-based metal additive manufacturing processes - including build-plate/substrate removal and post-build depowdering - not just general 3D printing exposure.
- Working knowledge of downstream part-finishing processes common to additive manufacturing, including EDM and heat treatment.
- Comfort working through planning updates and engineering changes in a live, high-volume production environment - not a static, low-change setting.
- 5+ years in quality engineering, ideally in a manufacturing environment with frequent process and engineering change activity.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T without hand-holding.
What Sets a Great Candidate Apart
- Prior experience supporting aerospace additive manufacturing in a high-volume or full-rate production environment (rather than prototyping or low-rate builds).
- Experience transitioning parts or processes from NPI into sustained production.
- A track record of keeping MRB and disposition cycle times short without cutting corners on quality.
- Experience applying standard aerospace quality frameworks (e.g., AS9100) to additive manufacturing processes - you understand how AM fits into a broader aerospace quality system, not just how to run the equipment.
What You'll Actually Do
- Run/Analyze CMM/PolyWorks and CT inspections to verify dimensional and internal quality of additively manufactured parts, including parts that pass through EDM and heat treatment.
- Participate in MRB to disposition nonconformances and drive root cause and corrective action.
- Review and process planning updates and engineering changes, assessing quality impact before they hit the floor.
- Partner with manufacturing engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues that surface as volume ramps up.
- Maintain and improve inspection plans and quality documentation as processes evolve.
- Report quality trends, risks, and process changes in a regular cadence with Verify and customer leadership.
Requirements
- Ability to commute to Auburn, AL - this is an in-person role.
- Minimum 5 years quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CMM/PolyWorks, CT inspection, and MRB processes.
- Familiarity with powder-based metal additive manufacturing processes, including downstream EDM and heat treatment steps.
