Position Details

he Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in the Sykes College of Business at The University of Tampa seeks candidates for an Assistant Teaching Professor or Lecturer of Entrepreneurship who also serves as New Venture Advisor in the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center to start in January 2027. The successful candidate will teach entrepreneurship classes and provide co-curricular programming for student entrepreneurs and early-stage company founders. Candidates are expected to have a commitment to excellence in teaching and in coaching and mentoring students as well as experience and expertise in entrepreneurship.

The position will be housed in the Innovation and Collaboration building which includes the 25,000+ square foot state of the art, John P Lowth Entrepreneurship Center.  Among other awards and accolades, the Lowth Center was named a NASDAQ Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence and houses the national headquarters of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO).  Co-curricular activities offered through the Center include the CREATE business plan competition and boot-camp, the UT Entrepreneurs Club, the Spartan Incubator and many others.

The teaching load for this position will include two 4-hour courses (8 contact hours) in each of the two 14-week semesters per academic year (a total of 4 courses per academic year). This position includes teaching the Spartan Accelerator course which is designed to support student venture founders.   In addition to teaching, the person in this position will be expected to coach and mentor student venture founders, work with the Lowth Center leadership to develop seminars and programs in the center, and to assist the Lowth Center director with other assigned duties. The expectations during the summer are to continue to offer coaching and mentoring and programming for company founders as needed and to participate in planning activities for the upcoming academic year. Specific requirements and expectations for this position will be communicated annually by the Dean of the Sykes College of Business and the director of the Lowth Entrepreneurship Center.

A doctorate from an AACSB university is preferred; a master’s degree with at least 18 hours of coursework in entrepreneurship is required.  At least 5 years of experience as an entrepreneur or working for startup companies is expected.  In addition to expertise in entrepreneurship, the ideal candidate will have experience with coaching and mentoring company founders.
