Scientist Engineer - Noise/Acoustics/Vibration (Mechanical / Electrical)

Description
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the fleet of real-time noise and vibration monitors for field deployment.
- Support field measurement programs ranging from same-day site visits to multi-year monitoring programs in a variety of settings.
- Collaborate with global equipment and monitoring teams to optimise system performance.
- Work closely with the Noise, Vibration and Air Quality engineering teams to support the development and maintenance of monitoring systems.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and calibrate monitoring equipment, including monitors, sensors, and modems.
- Take ownership of the existing online monitoring platform, ensuring that the platform operates effectively and integrates with field devices.
- Support the configuration and troubleshooting of field communications and monitoring devices.
- Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and project planning.
- Manage competing priorities across several concurrent projects while maintaining quality and reliability.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with relevant electronics experience.
- Ability to work in a variety of physically demanding environments.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in Australia.
- Ability to organise work, manage time carefully, and balance several concurrent projects.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, together with the ability to complete work independently.
- Practical problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to learn independently.
- Interest or experience in Linux-based operating systems.
- Interest or experience in low-power microcontroller-based systems.
- Hands-on assembly skills, including wiring and soldering.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including C++, C#, Python, or Java.
- Interest or experience in database management using SQL.
- Experience configuring, troubleshooting, or maintaining monitoring devices, sensors, modems, or similar technical equipment.
- Experience supporting field measurement or environmental monitoring programs would be advantageous.
