We are seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join our non-profit team and play a key leadership role in serving complex clients, developing our people, and contributing to the continued growth of the firm. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who brings strong technical expertise, exceptional client relationship skills, and a passion for mentoring and leadership.
As an Audit Manager, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients while leading complex engagements from planning through completion. You'll also have the opportunity to establish yourself as a subject-matter expert, develop new business, participate in firm-wide initiatives, and help shape the next generation of accounting professionals.
What You'll Do
Client & Engagement Leadership
- Serve as a relationship manager for larger and more complex non-profit audit engagements.
- Plan and manage engagements to ensure sufficient, competent audit evidence is obtained efficiently, within budget and without over-auditing.
- Review financial statements and workpapers as part of the firm's quality control process.
- Serve as a recognized technical resource in an area of accounting, auditing, tax, or an industry niche.
- Act as a technical reviewer, trainer, and resource for team members.
- Attend client Board of Director meetings and professionally present audit results.
- Deliver high-quality, client-ready work to firm partners with minimal additional review required.
- Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and serve as a strategic advisor.
Leadership & Team Development
- Oversee engagement scheduling, team management, staff development, audit systems, training, and CPE.
- Mentor and develop Senior Accountants and Supervisors, providing ongoing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Take an active role in the advancement and career development of team members.
- Participate in department and firm-wide management activities, including strategic planning, growth initiatives, hiring, promotions, and other leadership decisions.
- Help foster a culture that supports employee retention, engagement, satisfaction, and professional growth.
- Lead by example and demonstrate strong leadership throughout the department and firm.
Business Development & Industry Leadership
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, prospects, referral sources, and community contacts.
- Actively participate in networking, industry, community, and social events.
- Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and develop new client relationships.
- Participate in prospect presentations, proposal activities, targeted outreach, and lead-generation efforts.
- Help develop service offerings and pricing for prospective clients.
- Build visibility and credibility within a chosen industry niche through professional associations, trade shows, speaking engagements, and other industry activities.
- Present at roundtables, conferences, and other professional events.
- Contribute thought leadership through white papers and industry publications.
What We're Looking For
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Certification
- CPA certification strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant audit and leadership responsibilities.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ProSystem fx Tax, Fixed Assets, and Engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.
- Strong client relationship and management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development and technical excellence.
- A track record of dedication and commitment to an organization or professional firm.
- Ability to establish credibility and expertise within an industry niche or area of specialization.

Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid office environment or fully remote with typical business hours of Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Additional hours are expected during peak seasons.
This position primarily involves working at a computer, participating in meetings, communicating by phone and email, and collaborating with clients and colleagues.
