Description
General Manager
Location: Clarksville & Hendersonville, TN
Compensation: $85,000–$105,000 base + performance-based bonus
Schedule: Full-Time | Multi-Location
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a General Manager to serve as the owner's second-in-command across two established dental practices. This is a hands-on operational leadership role responsible for turning the owner's vision into consistent execution, accountability, and measurable results across both locations.
The ideal candidate is a decisive, organized leader who can identify what needs to happen, align the team, make sound decisions, and follow through without requiring constant direction. This person will oversee all non-clinical operations while partnering closely with the dentists, allowing the owner to focus more on clinical leadership, growth, and long-term strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Business Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations across both dental practices and establish consistent systems, processes, and standards.
- Translate company goals into clear priorities, action plans, accountability, and measurable results.
- Monitor practice performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement solutions.
- Maintain strong communication between both locations and ensure teams have the resources and support needed to succeed.
- Travel between locations based on business needs, staffing, performance, and training requirements.
Financial & Performance Management
- Own key business metrics including production, collections, profitability, labor, and controllable expenses.
- Monitor KPIs and financial performance, identify trends, and take corrective action when needed.
- Partner with the owner on budgets, forecasting, investments, and growth initiatives.
- Maintain accountability around goals, bonus programs, scheduling, and practice performance.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and hold all non-dental team members accountable, including office leaders, assistants, business staff, and hygienists.
- Recruit, onboard, train, develop, and retain high-performing team members.
- Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and address performance issues directly.
- Create consistency in leadership, communication, and culture across both locations.
Patient Experience & Clinical Partnership
- Partner with dentists and clinical leaders to improve scheduling, patient flow, team support, and overall patient experience.
- Ensure patient concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately.
- Support case acceptance, provider efficiency, team development, and continuing education while respecting clinical decision-making authority.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, privacy, safety, and dental-practice requirements.
Growth & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, patient experience, profitability, and team performance.
- Partner with marketing and practice leadership to support new-patient growth, community involvement, reputation, and marketing ROI.
- Lead new initiatives and ensure changes are successfully implemented and sustained.
What Success Looks Like
- The owner can trust that priorities are being executed without constant follow-up.
- Both practices operate with consistent standards, accountability, and communication.
- Production, collections, profitability, patient experience, and team retention continue to improve.
- Team members understand expectations and take ownership of their responsibilities.
- Problems are identified early and brought forward with solutions—not just issues.
What We're Looking For
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple locations or complex service-based operations.
- Experience with P&L, budgeting, labor management, KPIs, and performance improvement.
- Strong people leadership skills with the ability to coach, hold others accountable, and have difficult conversations.
- Highly organized, process-minded, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities.
- Direct, confident, and emotionally intelligent communicator.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and operate as a true partner to an owner.
- Dental, healthcare, or other service-industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Open Dental is a plus.
Core Leadership Expectations
- Own the outcome.
- Communicate early and clearly.
- Use data to drive decisions.
- Create accountability without drama.
- Lead with professionalism, integrity, and consistency.
- Bring solutions, not just problems.
