Materials Management - Surgical Materials Aide - FT (40) - Days

Job Summary

Compiles and maintains records of quantity, cost, and type of material received, stocked, and issued primarily for the surgical department. Prepares material requisitions by performing the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities

· Works to meet goals and objectives of Material Management consistent with the institutional vision, mission, goals, and objectives.

· Responds to Health Care and Material Management trends that may have an impact on institutional needs.

· Assists in departmental goals and objectives.

· Accepts, fosters and uses precepts of continuous quality improvement within the department and among other institutional departments as appropriate.

· Recommends new programs as the market changes drive the materials needed to enhance the outcome of patient care.

· Communicates with colleagues, peers and superiors through succinct expression and receptive listening. 

· Effectively uses quality improvement decision-making skills that incorporate ideas and input of others.

· Establishes mutual trust and respect by dealing with others in a fair manner.

· Moves cases and boxes to various departments within the institution.

· Labels medical and surgical supplies with appropriate charge labels.

· Maintains accurate inventory control with regard to material received, stocked and issued.

· Fills requisitions by moving supplies to appropriate departments within the institution as requested and/or needed.

· Routinely checks supplies in various departments for outdated materials.

· Stocks shelves in various departments based on departmental needs and requisitions.

· Checks current invoice prices with prices listed on inventory control files.

· Assists in annual physical inventory of medical and surgical supplies in General Stores.

· Works with billing department to verify accuracy of surgical charges based on current pricing agreements.

· Compares information on requisitions, invoices, and shipping notices to material received or issued to verify accuracy of order.

· Prepares requests for procurement of material.

· Works with internal and external vendor representatives to ensure accuracy and timeliness of order processing.

· Performs other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 1 year experience in a supply chain or logistics field

Preferred Requirements

· 2 years’ experience in healthcare

· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers, managers, supervisors and administration.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to written or oral instructions. 

· Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.

· Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

· Analyze needs and product requirements.

· Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements

Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds.
