Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Survey Engineer to join our team!
he Survey Engineer will be responsible for managing and executing land surveying, setting-out, dimensional control, and geospatial activities across the project. The role will ensure that construction works are accurately positioned and executed in accordance with approved drawings, coordinates, levels, tolerances, and project specifications.
The position will coordinate closely with Engineering, Construction, Quality, Planning, BIM, contractors, consultants, and project management teams to provide accurate survey data and ensure proper control of all civil, structural, infrastructure, utilities, roads, pavements, and airfield works.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Plan and execute surveying activities in accordance with approved project requirements and construction schedules.
- Establish, maintain, and verify survey control points, benchmarks, reference stations, and coordinate systems.
- Review project survey control networks and ensure accuracy and consistency across work areas.
- Perform setting-out activities for civil, structural, infrastructure, utilities, roads, pavements, and airfield works.
- Establish construction lines, grids, coordinates, elevations, levels, and reference points.
- Conduct surveys for runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, drainage, utilities, foundations, buildings, structures, and other infrastructure works.
- Carry out topographical, boundary, as-built, and verification surveys as required.
- Perform detailed surveys to verify existing site conditions and identify discrepancies against design information.
- Review IFC drawings, design coordinates, levels, profiles, alignments, and survey requirements prior to construction.
- Coordinate with Design and Engineering teams to resolve discrepancies between drawings and site conditions.
- Conduct pre-construction surveys and establish accurate setting-out information for construction teams.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved coordinates, elevations, alignments, slopes, gradients, and dimensional tolerances.
- Carry out regular quality verification surveys and provide survey reports to Engineering and Quality teams.
- Conduct earthworks and grading surveys, including cut-and-fill calculations and formation-level verification.
- Perform road and pavement surveys, including alignment, levels, cross-sections, slopes, and profiles.
- Support airfield works by verifying runway, taxiway, apron, shoulder, drainage, and associated pavement geometry.
- Carry out utility surveys and verify locations, levels, routes, and interfaces of underground and above-ground services.
- Perform structural and building surveys for foundations, columns, slabs, steel structures, equipment bases, and other elements.
- Conduct dimensional control surveys for structural steel and major mechanical equipment where required.
- Carry out settlement, deformation, and movement monitoring surveys where applicable.
- Use appropriate surveying equipment including Total Stations, GNSS/GPS, Digital Levels, Laser Scanners, and other surveying technologies.
- Perform data collection, processing, calculations, and verification using approved surveying software.
- Ensure survey equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment calibration and verification.
- Prepare survey reports, field books, calculations, coordinates, drawings, and survey records.
- Review contractor survey submissions and verify their accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Check and approve survey-related Inspection Requests / Survey Requests as applicable.
- Support Quality teams with survey records and objective evidence for inspection and acceptance.
- Prepare and review as-built surveys and as-built drawings to confirm actual installed conditions.
- Support BIM teams by providing accurate survey data and coordinates for model coordination and verification.
- Coordinate with GIS and digital engineering teams where required.
- Identify survey discrepancies, dimensional deviations, and construction tolerances and escalate them to the relevant Engineering and Construction teams.
- Support investigation and resolution of survey-related NCRs and technical issues.
- Participate in technical coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with project procedures, specifications, applicable surveying standards, and client requirements.
- Maintain survey documentation and records required for project handover.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Surveyors and junior survey personnel.
- Promote accurate, consistent, and traceable survey practices across the project.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant surveying experience, preferably on major airport, infrastructure, civil, roads, utilities, or large-scale construction projects.
- Proven experience in construction surveying and engineering setting-out.
- Experience with airport / airfield projects is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of survey control networks, coordinate systems, levels, alignments, and construction tolerances.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, engineering teams, and project stakeholders.
- Professional Surveyor / Geomatics certification is preferred.
- Relevant land surveying or geomatics certification is an advantage.
- Training in GNSS/GPS, Total Station, 3D Laser Scanning, or UAV surveying is advantageous.
- AutoCAD / Civil 3D certification is an advantage.
- BIM / digital surveying training is preferred.
