Why explore

  • Opportunity to work in a world class organization within the aluminium business

  • Drive meaningful strategies for the business

  • Gain exposure across both Commercial and Product Group leadership

  • Based in Singapore, a global commercial hub for Rio Tinto

About the role

We are looking for a Specialist - Metal Management & S&OP to join our team to support the planning, execution and delivery of our primary aluminium products to customers, optimizing value for a combined production rate of 1.2 million tonnes per annum from our four aluminium smelters in Australia and New Zealand.

The role is an exciting opportunity for someone able to manage high complexity in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple stakeholders and products for value-based decisions over the execution (0-3 months) and strategic (4-12 months) ranges.

Based in the Commercial hub office in Singapore, the Specialist - Metal Management & S&OP is a vital support function across our commercial and operational teams. The role requires a strong level of communication with key stakeholders including the Sales, Logistics, Customer Service, and our Casthouse operations teams.

Reporting to the Manager - Sales & Operations Planning Pacific, your core role responsibilities will be:

  • Key interface between our Commercial and Operations teams, for both the strategic and tactical supply chain planning horizons.

  • Determining the optimised view for the allocation of demand to our system capacity production, providing the strategic fact base and presenting insight and recommendations in our monthly S&OP cycle.

  • Identifying value creation opportunities for the system, determining the business justification through cost benefit and options analysis and alignment with stakeholders.

  • Lead weekly execution meetings and routines with our supply chain stakeholders (logistics, operations, customer services) to manage variation in the delivery of the ‘make’ and the ‘move’ and coordinate mitigating actions where necessary.

  • Owning delivery of finished goods inventory targets and forecasting over the strategic range, contributing towards team and business targets of working capital reduction whilst maintaining robustness of supply for customers.

  • Be a change agent for the continuous improvement of our planning and execution processes, identifying and contributing to initiatives enhancing our digital capability for managing and sharing our supply chain data.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, finance, engineering or related field.

  • 5+ years in supply chain scheduling, logistics and/or inventory management.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience preparing and presenting throughout the S&OP cycle for demand and supply planning.

  • Ability to analyse data, build options and present recommendations based on financial valuations quickly and effectively.

  • Exposure and knowledge of the primary aluminium industry.

  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Cast house operations experience in aluminium or related industry.

  • Advanced knowledge in Excel.

  • Exposure to Anaplan and SAP systems.

  • Career development & education assistance to further your ambitions

  • Access top tier family-friendly health and medical programs and pension plan

  • Wellbeing benefits

  • Generous Rio Tinto employee share program

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Ongoing individual wellbeing support for you and your family for personal and professional matter

  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)

Where you will be working

Our Commercial function at Rio Tinto connects our product groups, customers and suppliers from mine to market. We bring together Sales & Marketing and Trading (Sell), Global Procurement (Buy), and Marine & Logistics (Move) to buy, sell and move the materials the world needs, by partnering across the value chain to optimise outcomes for our customers and the Group. Headquartered in our global Commercial hub in Singapore, and with a strong presence in Chicago, Frankfurt, Antwerp and across Asia in Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul, we work as one team to deliver customer centric value, safely and sustainably.
