Manufacturing Reliability Engineer Role Overview
The Manufacturing Reliability Engineer serves as the reliability subject matter expert for manufacturing operations, responsible for improving asset performance, eliminating chronic losses, and building sustainable reliability systems across PBV facilities. Operating in a high-speed, automated beverage manufacturing environment, this position functions as both a strategic architect and tactical problem solver. The role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Continuous Improvement teams to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reduce unplanned downtime, and improve asset reliability through Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance technologies, Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), and standardized maintenance practices. This position drives a proactive reliability culture by identifying risks before failures occur, implementing engineering solutions to recurring equipment issues, and leveraging data-driven asset management strategies to improve manufacturing performance.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Data-Driven Asset Lifecycle Strategy
Develop and maintain long-term asset health strategies for critical manufacturing equipment.
Utilize CMMS, downtime, maintenance, and OEE data to perform Pareto analysis and identify the highest-impact reliability opportunities.
Prioritize engineering resources toward chronic failure modes and production bottlenecks that materially impact plant performance.
Own and track reliability KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, PM Compliance, OEE Availability, and downtime reduction.
Develop reliability improvement plans based on equipment performance and asset health trends.
Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) Development
Design, implement, and continuously improve Reliability-Centered Maintenance programs across manufacturing assets.
Lead initiatives that transition facilities from reactive maintenance practices toward predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
Establish standard reliability methodologies, workflows, and governance processes across PBV operations.
Cross-Site Defect Elimination
Lead reliability knowledge-sharing efforts across PBV facilities.
Drive replication of successful corrective actions, engineering improvements, and maintenance best practices.
Eliminate recurring equipment failures through sustainable defect elimination processes.
Capital Project Reliability Support
Serve as the reliability engineering representative for capital projects and equipment installations.
Review equipment specifications and designs to ensure maintainability and reliability requirements are incorporated.
Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup activities for new equipment.
Ensure maintenance plans, spare parts strategies, and reliability standards are established before equipment turnover.
Proactive Risk Assessment & Failure Prevention
Facilitate Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities with cross-functional teams.
Identify equipment vulnerabilities and develop mitigation plans to reduce operational risk.
Implement strategies that prevent catastrophic failures and production interruptions.
Predictive Maintenance Architecture
Lead implementation and expansion of predictive maintenance technologies.
Define monitoring strategies, sensor requirements, and alarm thresholds for critical assets.
Utilize vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, lubrication analysis, and digital condition-monitoring technologies to improve reliability.
Leverage IIoT-enabled monitoring and asset health data to support proactive maintenance decisions.
Availability Loss Mitigation
Lead investigations into major equipment failures, chronic downtime events, and recurring production interruptions.
Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to identify true failure mechanisms.
Implement permanent corrective actions through equipment redesign, component upgrades, maintenance plan revisions, and process improvements.
Support manufacturing teams during significant downtime events and recovery efforts.
Speed Loss Resolution
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement teams to identify and eliminate speed losses.
Analyze equipment operating below OEM performance standards.
Develop solutions that eliminate bottlenecks, micro-stoppages, recurring jams, and mechanical constraints.
Restore equipment performance to rated production capacity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Maintenance Standardization
Improve maintenance precision through development of standardized work processes.
Convert maintenance activities into detailed procedures embedded within CMMS systems.
Develop standardized overhaul procedures for critical assets.
Establish lubrication, inspection, and equipment care standards to reduce variation and improve execution.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to maintenance, operations, and engineering teams on reliability best practices.
Support development of reliability capabilities throughout the organization.
Influence cross-functional teams to drive sustainable reliability improvements without direct supervisory authority.
Continuous Improvement Support
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement teams to improve OEE performance.
Participate in Kaizen events, loss analysis activities, and focused improvement initiatives.
Track and validate results generated by reliability improvement efforts.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
Ensure all reliability and maintenance activities support safety, food safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Promote safe maintenance practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazard mitigation, and risk reduction.
Support quality objectives through reliable equipment performance and effective maintenance execution.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in high-speed automated packaging, bottling, beverage manufacturing, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated experience performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and reliability improvement projects.
Working knowledge of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and asset management principles.
Experience using CMMS systems, downtime analysis tools, and manufacturing performance metrics.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive sustainable operational improvements.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 25-40% as required.
