Quality Assurance Engineer – Hardware & Embedded Systems

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Assurance Engineer with expertise in hardware validation and embedded Linux testing. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring product quality across hardware and software integration points through the development and execution of automated test frameworks, validation strategies, and robust testing methodologies.

This role requires strong hands-on experience with embedded systems, Linux-based platforms, hardware debugging, and test automation using industry-standard tools and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

·       Design, develop, and execute automated test suites using Linaro Automated Validation Architecture (LAVA) to support continuous hardware and software validation.

·       Perform comprehensive hardware validation testing, including board bring-up, peripheral verification, stress testing, reliability assessments, and regression testing.

·       Develop, maintain, and enhance test automation frameworks and scripts using Python and Shell/Bash scripting.

·       Validate Linux-based systems, including kernel functionality, device drivers, boot processes, system services, and platform stability.

·       Create, configure, and manage LAVA job definitions, device types, device configurations, and automated test pipelines.

·       Good understanding of ARM64 aarch64  - QCOW2  - kselftest  -  LTP  -  GitLab CI/CD  ·  Shell Script  -  YAML  -  AWS

·       Investigate, reproduce, and triage test failures, working closely with development teams to drive root cause analysis and issue resolution.

·       Maintain and optimize test infrastructure, including lab hardware, device farms, automation environments, and CI/CD integrations.

·       Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, validation reports, and defect documentation.

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Firmware, Software Development, DevOps, and Program Management to ensure product quality objectives are achieved.

LAVA Framework

Hands-on experience with LAVA, including writing job definitions, configuring device types, managing dispatchers/workers, and maintaining automated validation environments.

Linux Systems

Strong understanding of Linux internals, including boot processes, systemd services, kernel modules, device trees, filesystems, and networking concepts.

Python Scripting

Proficiency in Python for test automation, API integration, result processing, reporting, and tool development.

Hardware Validation

Experience in board-level testing, hardware bring-up, peripheral validation, serial/JTAG debugging, power cycling, and system-level validation. ARM64 aarch64  - QCOW2  - kselftest  -  LTP 

Additional Skills

·       Experience integrating test automation frameworks with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.

·       Familiarity with embedded bootloaders, particularly U-Boot, and serial console debugging.

·       Strong working knowledge of Git and software development workflows.

·       Ability to interpret hardware schematics, datasheets, and technical documentation.

·       Experience with test management and defect tracking tools such as JIRA, GitLab, or equivalent platforms.

·       Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience working with ARM and/or RISC-V based SoC platforms.

·       Contributions to open-source testing, automation, or validation frameworks.

·       Familiarity with Docker and containerized test environments.

·       Working knowledge of hardware communication protocols, including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, and PCIe.

·       Experience with power consumption analysis, thermal validation, and performance characterization.

·       Exposure to large-scale device farms and automated hardware testing environments.

Education & Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

·       3–12 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Test Engineering, Embedded Systems Validation, or Hardware Verification.

·       Proven experience in automation-driven testing within embedded or hardware-focused product environments.

Work Environment

·       Hands-on, lab-based role involving interaction with physical hardware platforms and test infrastructure.

·       Close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, including Hardware, Firmware, Software Development, and DevOps.

·       Participation in on-call rotations to support critical test infrastructure and validation environments, as required.
