Description
This position provides administrative support for the County’s animal control and animal services functions and performs related administrative, secretarial, and customer service duties.
- Provides information and assistance to callers and visitors related to animal intake, adoption, owner surrender, and other animal shelter programs.
- Refers calls to animal control officers.
- Enters timely, complete, and accurate information into animal shelter management software.
- Prepares and maintains electronic and paper files, including veterinarian and medical files for animals.
- Opens, sorts, and distributes mail.
- Processes animal adoption applications for review by Director.
- Prepares claims and maintains claims records; forwards to Director for final approval.
- Logs donations; prepares receipts and thank you notes for donors.
- Organizes and maintains main office area and storeroom; inventories and assists with supply orders as needed.
- Schedules veterinarian, donation drop-off, medical appointments, and other appointments.
- Composes and monitors social media accounts for Story County Animal Shelter.
- Assists with basic animal care and general cleaning following established disease control protocols.
- Participates in off-site adoption events and fundraisers.
- Responds to disasters and other emergency events as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of modern office policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic animal control and shelter operations.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the operation of modern office equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
