Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the Technical Specialist – Skills Coach, Martlet Hockey will assist with the planning and delivery of on-ice skill development sessions, provide technical instruction, support the coaching staff in implementing athlete development initiatives aligned with the program's competitive objectives and help foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning, organization, and delivery of on-ice skill development sessions for student-athletes.
- Provide technical instruction in areas including skating, puck control, shooting, passing, position-specific skills, and game situations.
- Support the design and implementation of individual athlete development plans.
- Work with coaching staff to identify areas for improvement and monitor athlete progress throughout the season.
- Provide technical feedback and instruction to athletes during practices and skill development sessions.
- Assist with administrative duties and special projects as required.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Strong knowledge of hockey skill development and teaching methodologies that will motivate and mentor student-athletes in a positive learning environment
- Previous playing and/or coaching experience in hockey, preferably at the elite, university, or high-performance level.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a coaching staff.
- Ensure reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and be team oriented.
- Bilingual in French and English. NCCP certification or willingness to obtain certification is considered an asset. Experience developing and delivering skill-specific training sessions. Playing experience at a high-performance level is considered an asset.
