Logistics Planner

Role & Responsibilities

• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, quality and environmental management systems as well as corporate and local policies;
• Performs role in a manner that is reflective of Brenntag’s Core Values, within regulatory requirements and company policies, programs and expectations;
• Plan, coordinate, and optimize multi-modal transportation activities across road, rail, intermodal, and courier networks to ensure efficient, reliable, and on-time delivery.
• Monitor carrier performance and collaborate with transportation providers to resolve service issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage relationships with rail carriers, sites, and internal stakeholders to ensure reliable service, shipment visibility, and operational efficiency.
• Monitor railcar cycle times, fleet utilization, and shipment visibility to support service performance and asset productivity.
• Manage and minimize rail-related accessorial costs, including demurrage, detention, storage, and switching charges.
• Proactively resolve rail transportation issues, including service disruptions, shipment exceptions, and accessorial charges.
• Review and validate transportation costs across all modes, investigate billing discrepancies, and support freight spend management.
• Support transportation financial activities, including accruals, cost recovery, reporting, and spend analysis.
• Maintain transportation master data, carrier information, rates, and system controls to support operational accuracy and efficiency.
• Support system users, process enhancements, data integrity, and transportation compliance requirements.
• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and KPIs to measure transportation performance and support business decision-making.
• Support transportation operations, projects, and process improvement initiatives to enhance service, increase efficiency, and reduce transportation costs.

Education & Experience

• • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, rail operations, dispatch, or related operational functions
  • Previous exposure to compliance systems, such as Salesforce, would be beneficial
  • Experience in multi-modal transportation operations, freight auditing, and transportation-related financial processes.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Skills & Competencies

• • Knowledge of freight rating, transportation contracts, tariffs, invoicing, and transportation compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a proactive approach to managing priorities and resolving issues.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and manage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset
