Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator of Senior Programs, plans, coordinates, and administers programs and activities for our 55+ community—helping turn great ideas into fun, meaningful experiences for the people who make our community special.


Anticipated Hiring Range: $38.47-$40.66/hour Position open until filled with first consideration given to applicants who apply before October 4, 2026

  • Responsible for the development and coordination of all programs and activities for the Seniors including special events, classes, outreach, and transportation.
  • Recommends and administers pricing and polices for all Senior  programs and services.
  • Coordinates registrations of participants in various programs, including using ActiveNet recreation software.
  • Schedules rooms for various programs, working in partnership with Facility Coordinator.
  • Drives van in absence of volunteer driver, if necessary.
  • Develops Senior Program newsletters and coordinates mailing.
  • Coordinates all marketing and promotions with support from the Communications & Marketing Division.
  • Works with Recreation Administrative Assistant in administering registration, fee collection, deposits, and receipting.
  • Coordinate work direction for seasonal recreation staff as needed for senior programs.
  • Works with City finance team for program expenses and accounts payable.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises senior volunteers for volunteer led programs.
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Coon Rapids Super Senior Club.
  • Assists in budget preparation by recommending necessary items to Recreation Supervisor.  
  • Coordinates statistical reports (persons enrolled in activities and programs).
  • Serves as Staff Liaison to the Coon Rapids Senior Services Advisory Council.
  • Serves as liaison to any special committees developed to support the senior programs.
  • Sets up audio visual equipment as needed in programming spaces.
  • Assist with room set ups, furniture moving, cleaning or other logistical tasks as required for programming space.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
  • Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions , outside agencies, and the general public.
  • Performs essential position duties and responsibilities under the working conductions and physical demands described herein.
  • Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.
  • Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to the following:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Gerontology, Social Services or related field.
  • Three years of work experience in field of recreation programming.
  • Ability to learn recreation registration software.
  • Customer Service experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervision in a Senior Center or program environment.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED training.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements;  vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;  hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;  work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities;  work has no exposure to environmental conditions;  work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).


EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. This position requires a flexible work schedule, based on the needs of the programs and events. Typical work hours are 8:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M., but evenings and weekends will be required to provide leadership during specific events and programs.
