Director, Facilities Operations

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Facilities Operations, the director is responsible for Corewell Health's Facilities Operations, succession planning, program direction of the aligned Corewell Health's Facility Management Program. The program encompasses Plant and Building Operations, Facility Incident Command, Project Management, Environment of Care and Life Safety Compliance, Energy & Water Management, and maintaining asset management data base. Supports SEER capital pools for infrastructure and In-House construction. Leverages Facilities Best Practices, provides hospital administration with accurate and up to date facilities assessment information for code compliance, capital infrastructure upgrades, oversight of compliance with all regulatory agencies including Life Safety Code compliance, develops annual strategic initiatives for system facilities leadership and staff, develops departmental budgets, and serves as a consultant to facilities leadership and others regarding Facility Operation programs that include environment of care, water management plan, asset management program, and facility policies. Provides leadership and oversight of system wide compliance for in-house construction projects and initiatives. The director of Facilities partners with the Facilities and Support Services senior leadership team and internal/external partners to support a high reliable, customer first organizational structure that provides for a cost-effective model which meets the organizations financial established metrics and provides for a safe and branded environment for our patients, visitors and staff. Rotates on call responsibilities for facilities incident command for the system.

Essential Functions

• Develops, maintains and provides oversight of the facilities management program for Corewell Health and entities. This includes metrics and leveraging facilities Best Practices, evaluating and maintaining facilities regulatory compliance readiness, energy efficiencies and deficits, water management program (legionella prevention and remediation), and short & long term building infrastructure capital needs.
• Directs all hospital maintenance activities, ensuring the optimum level of equipment efficiency. Provides oversight of outside construction contractors and service providers when needed.
• Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining the annual operating budget for Facility Operations, ensuring that facility capital pools for new facilities, renovations, and infrastructure are managed within established set guidelines.
• Collaborates with internal and external partners to integrate a facilities management program that meets Corewell Health’s long-term strategic initiatives. Interfaces with department directors concerning facility maintenance, safety and compliance, sustainability and infrastructure upgrades. Shares ongoing short and long-term strategic planning initiatives with the facilities team on a continual basis.
• Provides direction and support for Corewell Health's facilities management team to engage and promote productivity effectiveness and work process efficiencies. Develops methodologies and approaches that are compliant with regulations/standards and that established metrics are being utilized. Provides accurate and up to date benchmarking data that is used for budgeting and continuing improvements efforts.
• Mentors, develops succession planning, and routinely evaluates management team for effectiveness and compliance in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy. Carries out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Directs and provides oversight to those engaged in supervising a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of Corewell Health’s equipment, buildings, and related structures, and utility systems. Provides oversight and expertise for facilities management, life safety and utility management operations to safeguard hospital buildings to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, volunteers, and employees.
• Provides expert knowledge of facility management , infrastructure systems and procedures, safety and compliance. Ability to creatively plan, analyze and develop viable solutions for facilities related issues and general service problems while conserving available resources. Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations as they relate to areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

• Preferred Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field
• 10 years of relevant experience 10 years of relevant experience Managing Facility Operation and maintenance functions Required, experience working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell Health is preferred. Preferred
• CRT-Healthcare Facility Manager, Certified (CHFM) - UNKNOWN Unknown preferred Or
• CRT-Healthcare Compliance, Certified (CHC) - HCCA Health Care Compliance Association preferred
