Mechanical Designer - Refrigeration

POSITION SUMMARY

The Refrigeration Designer supports the design and development of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. This role is responsible for preparing system layouts, piping drawings, equipment selections, and construction documents for supermarket, cold storage, and commercial refrigeration projects. The Refrigeration Designer works closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and field teams to develop practical and cost-effective refrigeration solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop refrigeration piping and equipment layouts using AutoCAD.
• Prepare construction drawings, as-built drawings, and design documents.
• Assist with refrigeration equipment selection and system configuration.
• Perform basic refrigeration load calculations and pipe sizing.
• Coordinate designs with electrical, HVAC, architectural, and construction teams.
• Review equipment submittals and manufacturer specifications.
• Support field installation teams with design clarifications and revisions.
• Maintain drawing standards and document control procedures.
• Participate in project meetings and design reviews.

REQUIREMENTS

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC/R Technology, Drafting, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of mechanical drafting/design experience in the AEC industry, refrigeration strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit required.
• Experience preparing HVAC and refrigeration construction documents.
• Experience with supermarket refrigeration systems preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and refrigeration schematics.
• Understanding of refrigeration cycle fundamentals and mechanical piping systems.
• Microsoft Excel
