Description
Vena Energy is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to provide practical, hands-on electrical engineering support across our operating renewable energy assets in Australia. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering and Reliability, this role will act as a key technical specialist for plant electrical performance, reliability, fault response and continuous improvement, with a focus on HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, BOP infrastructure and plant troubleshooting. Working closely with Operations, Asset Management, site teams, contractors and OEMs, the Senior Power Systems Engineer will support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of solar and BESS assets by resolving complex electrical issues, supporting maintenance and outage activities, and identifying opportunities to improve asset performance and reduce downtime.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety & Technical Compliance
Ensure all electrical engineering activities are conducted in accordance with electrical safety standards, site procedures, and relevant regulations
Support safe execution of electrical work across HV and LV systems
Provide engineering input into incident investigations, particularly electrical faults and failures
Quality Assurance, Reporting & Budgets
Develop and maintain technical documentation for plant electrical systems (SLDs, protection coordination, system configurations)
Provide technical inputs into operational reporting and performance analysis where electrical systems impact performance
Support validation of plant performance data, particularly electrical losses and availability impacts
Assist in evaluating technical vendor proposals and scopes of work
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
Work with OEMs, contractors, and service providers to resolve electrical and plant issues
Provide technical oversight during contractor-led works involving electrical systems
Support review of contractor performance on electrical maintenance and fault response
Operations & Maintenance (Core Electrical Accountability)
Provide technical support to Operations teams for electrical faults and plant trips, BOP system failures, and HV/LV system issues.
Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA)
Support execution of maintenance activities
Support outage activities by providing electrical engineering input and troubleshooting support
Plant Electrical Systems & BOP Performance
Provide technical oversight of plant electrical infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, collection systems, protection systems and auxiliary systems.
Analyse plant performance to identify electrical losses, equipment reliability issues and system inefficiencies.
Work closely with Asset Management to support performance improvement initiatives
Asset Optimisation & Engineering Improvements
Identify and implement electrical improvements to improve plant reliability and availability
Support and lead plant upgrades,
Provide technical input into lifecycle and maintenance planning decisions
Risk Management
Identify electrical risks across the plant and support mitigation planning
Assess condition and performance of electrical systems and equipment
Provide input into asset risk registers and mitigation strategies
Prerequisites:
Degree in Electrical Engineering
5–10 years’ experience in electrical engineering within power generation or similar infrastructure
Experience working with HV/LV systems and plant electrical infrastructure
Experience supporting live operating assets
Strong knowledge of plant electrical systems, including HV/LV systems, transformers, protection systems and switchgear
Ability to perform fault analysis and root cause investigations
Understanding of plant performance drivers and electrical losses
Strong problem-solving capability
Ability to work under operational pressure
Effective communication with site teams and contractors
Stakeholder management and coordination
