Summary
The Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems supporting a large-scale manufacturing facility. This role provides senior-level technical leadership for HVAC, chilled water, heating, process cooling, and other facility mechanical systems. The engineer will work closely with facilities operations and maintenance teams, electrical and controls engineers, project managers, contractors, and site leadership to ensure reliable, safe, efficient, and code-compliant facility infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide senior-level engineering support for facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and other mechanical utilities.
• Lead the engineering, design, modification, and optimization of mechanical systems and facility infrastructure.
• Develop engineering calculations, equipment specifications, scopes of work, technical standards, and design documentation.
• Evaluate existing mechanical systems and identify capacity, reliability, safety, and operational improvement opportunities.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical system failures and perform root-cause analysis to develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Lead and support capital improvement, equipment replacement, facility expansion, and infrastructure upgrade projects.
• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment submittals, and contractor proposals for technical accuracy and compliance.
• Provide technical oversight during equipment installation, construction, startup, testing, commissioning, and system turnover.
• Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with facilities operations, maintenance, electrical, controls, EHS, construction, and project management teams.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical mechanical equipment and systems.
• Assess equipment condition, system performance, lifecycle requirements, and long-term replacement needs to support capital planning.
• Monitor mechanical system performance, utility consumption, and operating trends to identify opportunities for improved reliability and energy efficiency.
• Ensure mechanical systems and projects comply with applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and company engineering standards.
• Manage relationships with engineering consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and service providers.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to facilities engineers, technicians, and other engineering personnel.
• Participate in emergency response, system recovery, and continuous improvement initiatives involving critical facility mechanical infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in facilities engineering, mechanical engineering, building systems, industrial facilities, manufacturing, data centers, or a related environment.
• Demonstrated experience with HVAC systems and mechanical utilities, including chilled water, heating, pumps, cooling towers, and associated equipment.
• Experience with mechanical system design, troubleshooting, commissioning, maintenance, and facility operations.
• Experience managing engineering projects and coordinating contractors, consultants, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong knowledge of applicable mechanical, building, safety, and environmental codes and standards, with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or relevant industry certification
• Experience supporting critical or highly regulated facilities, such as semiconductor, data center, advanced manufacturing, or large industrial facilities.
