A Day in The Life Of:

The Senior Systems Engineer defines, integrates, and validates complex physiologic monitoring systems within the Medtronic ACM organization. This role is responsible for developing and managing system and subsystem requirements, supporting risk management, defining system‑level tests to characterize and verify performance, and maintaining end‑to‑end traceability across the product lifecycle.

• Develop, decompose, and maintain clear, testable system and subsystem requirements for physiologic monitoring technologies.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to translate user and clinical needs into system architectures and requirements.

• Establish and maintain requirements traceability from user needs through design, implementation, verification, and risk controls.

• Lead and contribute to risk management activities, including hazard analysis, FMEA/FMECA, and ensuring linkage between risks, mitigations, and verification evidence.

• Define and develop system‑level test strategies and test cases to characterize system functionality, performance, and interoperability.

• Analyze test data, investigate issues, and drive resolution of system‑level defects and integration problems.

• Support design reviews, technical documentation, and design control deliverables in accordance with Medtronic quality and regulatory requirements.

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers across disciplines to ensure cohesive system integration and robust design decisions.

Key Skills & Experience  

• Strong background in systems engineering for complex electro‑mechanical, software‑enabled, or medical device systems.

• Demonstrated experience developing structured requirements (e.g., using Polarion, Jama, or similar tools) and managing requirements baselines and changes.

• Proven ability to maintain traceability between requirements, design elements, test cases, and risk controls.

• Hands‑on experience with risk management for regulated products (e.g., ISO 14971 or equivalent practices), including hazard analysis and failure mode analysis.

• Expertise in system‑level verification and validation, including test plan development, test execution oversight, and results analysis.

• Familiarity with quality systems and design control for medical devices or similarly regulated industries.

• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across multiple engineering disciplines.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field; advanced degree and prior experience in physiologic or patient monitoring systems strongly preferred.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
