Registered Nurse: Labor and Delivery unit

Unit Overview: 

Labor and Delivery is a high-risk specialized unit that provides care to pregnant individuals prior to and during labor, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. This unit has 17 private birthing suites, 8 Triage/PACU beds, 4 OR Rooms, and a specialized Antepartum unit that provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies and post-partum diagnoses needing supportive care.

Shift: Part-time, Nights

Job Description:

• The Registered Nurse (RN) implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.
• S/he honors patients’ mind, body and spirit by respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of each individual.
• Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.
• Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.
• Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines.
• The Registered Nurse (RN) is an exemplar for compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.
• As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:

• Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.
• Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university
• Candidate with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor’s degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.
• Basic life support [must obtain within 30 days of hire.]
• ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of Assignment.
