Lab Technician

AirMyne is a Series A Direct Air Capture (DAC) startup aiming to develop the most readily scalable and cost-competitive DAC process. By employing widely available industrial technologies and equipment, and by creating an energy-flexible process, we hope to overcome barriers to scale such as material supply chains, cost and availability of clean energy, and plant capacity factors. Our engineering team has spent the last four years refining our process into a full integrated system, and we are on our way to an outdoor pilot funded by the California Energy Commission. 

We are now looking for a Lab Technician to add to our R&D team. This role will be responsible for execution of bench-scale chemistry tests including solubility, sample preparation, chemical analysis via titration, and more. You will be working under a Staff Scientist leading the R&D team to characterize the fundamentals of AirMyne’s process chemistry by designing and analyzing your own experiments. The ideal candidate will show strong communication and attention to detail, and is excited about translating lab data to inform engineering decisions.

What you’ll do:

• Design and conduct lab-scale experimentation on topics like solubility and crystallization
• Analyze process samples via titration and spectroscopy
• Work up experimental data into written documentation and presentations to the R&D/Engineering team
• Write SOPs for experimental procedures
• Assist with sampling of bench through pre-pilot scale prototypes

Requirements:

• B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• 0-2 years of industry or startup experience
• Wet lab experience including dilutions, sample preparation, and instrumental analysis
• Detail-oriented with strong data analysis and documentation skills
• Clear communicator, with the desire to ask questions and learn
• Dedication to lab safety and cleanliness of the lab environment

Bonus background:

• Comfortable with a coding language like Python
• Experience with analytical chemistry
• Previous experience designing targeted experiments to answer ambiguous engineering questions
• Mechanical aptitude with small scale equipment like pumps, fans, and sensors

This role is on-site AirMyne’s facility in West Berkeley. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $65,000 - $85,000 plus company equity.
