Reporting directly to the SVP Underwriting Manager Specialty– Zurich, the VP, Construction & Engineering will lead the production, marketing and analysis of RenaissanceRe's Swiss specialty reinsurance business.
The successful candidate will bring deep construction and engineering underwriting experience and established broker and client relationships. They will possess expert UW technical competence, particularly in Construction & Engineering, and working knowledge of other lines of business to support cross-class, multiline transactions.
The role will work with the SVP Underwriting Manager to create and execute comprehensive business development and marketing strategies, working both individually and within a team. These strategies are to be developed in co-ordination with both internal RenaissanceRe teams and external business partners across Europe.
The role will be responsible for identifying and cultivating partnerships with clients and broker relationships. This individual will seek new opportunities to apply RenaissanceRe's expertise to the critical issues facing its clients. The role will work together closely with the Casualty & Specialty European heads to strengthen and implement construction and engineering underwriting practices. They will also work collaboratively with partners and peers across our global footprint, including London, Bermuda, New York and Zurich.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a profitable book of business and handle day-to-day underwriting.
- Manage the specialty portfolio in Zurich and support risk analysis.
- Build and manage client and broker relationships.
- Share market insights with team members, including emerging opportunities and threats.
- Maintain expert product knowledge and act as a resource for clients and colleagues.
- Identify, design, and drive marketing synergies, by developing creative solutions to client problems.
- Make full use of RenaissanceRe risk and underwriting tools and analytics, and strengthen the risk management culture within the team.
- Maintain ongoing, self-directed professional development and study.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; actuarial qualification preferred
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in the construction and engineering (re)insurance industry
- Established relationships with senior clients and brokers in the construction and engineering (re)insurance markets
- In-depth knowledge of construction and engineering portfolio management and risk assessment practices
- Proven ability to design, build and apply complex risk models and systems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Solid understanding of reinsurance structures and risk transfer mechanisms
- Willingness and ability to travel as required
