Also, provides backup coverage for clinical technology systems and works with the Clinical Systems Specialist to reduce single-person dependencies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Infrastructure administration
- Administer the virtual server environment, including hosts, hypervisor, management services, virtual machines, storage dependencies, and supporting Windows and other assigned servers. Monitor health and capacity; plan and apply approved updates and security patches; validate service operation after maintenance.
- Administer Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 groups and dynamic membership, group policy, privileged access, service accounts, and identity integrations in coordination with security, HR, the Clinical Systems Specialist, and the Help Desk.
- Review student, vendor, and other temporary accounts and data quality through approved access processes.
- Monitor capacity, health, availability, logs, and performance; investigate incidents and recurring problems and implement approved corrective actions.
Enterprise platforms and endpoint engineering
- Share administration and operational coverage for Microsoft Defender for Office 365, including approved email security policies and mail flow rules; coordinate security decisions and investigations with the security function.
- Support Microsoft Purview audit and information requests only when authorized by the appropriate privacy, HR, legal, or records owner, with documented scope and access controls.
- Administer or provide designated backup for Jamf Pro, Apple Business Manager, device management certificates, and Microsoft Intune. Help develop approved device enrollment, application deployment, and Company Portal processes.
- Own the engineering lifecycle for assigned physical and virtual Windows desktop images and Omnissa components: build and optimize images, test applications and peripherals, coordinate user acceptance, deploy through change control, and maintain rollback procedures.
- Plan and validate monthly desktop operating system and application patch cycles, including pilot testing, deployment monitoring, exception tracking, and remediation of failed or vulnerable endpoints.
- Administer thin and zero client end-user devices (such as 10ZiG) and their management tools. Test firmware and configuration changes with representative clinical and administrative workflows, then schedule, deploy, validate, and document approved updates.
Problem management and service improvement
- Lead root cause analysis for recurring or complex issues across endpoints, virtual desktops, Teams, servers, storage, policies, network dependencies, and power. Use logs and evidence to create durable fixes rather than repeatedly resolving individual incidents.
- Review ticket trends, record recurring problems and corrective actions, and maintain shared knowledge articles, standard operating procedures, and support handoffs.
- Work with users and the Help Desk to document application workflows, including Rapid Filer requests, when technical solutions depend on different user roles or care processes.
- Track assigned Microsoft licensing and platform capabilities with procurement; recommend changes or savings for approval.
Backup and recovery
- Administer backup jobs, retention, restore testing, and disaster recovery procedures for assigned systems; verify recoverability and document gaps and corrective work.
- Maintain infrastructure standards, asset and configuration records, dependency maps, and technical runbooks; coordinate vendor support and lifecycle planning.
- Use the configuration management database (CMDB) to document and maintain critical system support information, including primary and backup support staff, vendor contacts, Summit’s ownership and support responsibilities, service level agreements (SLAs), and support hours.
Projects and change control
- Plan, test, document, and implement server and platform changes, upgrades, migrations, and new services through approved change control, including rollback and post-change monitoring.
- Support infrastructure projects and collaborate with network, security, service desk, clinical, and application teams on dependencies and incidents.
Clinical systems backup
- Serve as the trained backup for technical assistance on clinical systems such as Mindray, Vocera, Hill-Rom Nurse Call, OneView, and other assigned platforms, including server health, access, interfaces, vendor coordination, planned maintenance, and recovery procedures.
- Provide first response and routine coverage during the Clinical Systems Specialist absence.
Shared coverage and continuity
- Maintain current diagrams, inventories, configuration records, support procedures, vendor contacts, and recovery steps for assigned systems in shared team documentation.
- Crosstrain others in IT; participate in planned maintenance, incident response, testing, and handoffs so others can also provide first response and routine operational coverage.
- Escalate specialized issues to the primary owner or vendor, document the outcome, and follow change control and access approval requirements.
Organizational responsibilities
- Support Summit Pacific Medical Center’s mission, vision, and values; protect confidential information and PHI; follow organizational policies and approved security practices; and work respectfully with clinical, administrative, and technology teams.
- Other duties as assigned.
