Job Description Summary

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer serves as the primary process owner for a critical machining discipline within the Rotor Machining cell. This role is responsible for supporting, improving, and sustaining complex CNC machining processes used to manufacture large rotating components to demanding dimensional tolerances.
Process ownership may include turning, drilling, grinding, or broaching operations. As the technical subject matter expert for your assigned process, you will provide hands-on support for daily production, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and drive long-term improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
Success in this role requires a strong background in CNC machining, process development, root cause problem solving, and continuous improvement within a complex manufacturing environment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical owner and subject matter expert for a designated rotor machining process, ensuring safe, stable, and capable manufacturing performance
  • Provide technical leadership and support for production troubleshooting, resolving process and equipment-related issues to maintain operational flow and achieve business objectives
  • Lead process qualification, validation, and continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance
  • Develop and implement data-driven solutions to increase OEE, improve process capability, reduce cycle time, and eliminate waste
  • Analyze machining performance using production metrics, statistical data, and root cause methodologies to identify and execute corrective actions
  • Partner closely with Operations, Quality, Industrialization, Maintenance, and Engineering teams
  • Support onboarding, training, and technical development of machinists and production personnel on new equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes
  • Manage capital and operating expenditures associated with process improvements, tooling, equipment upgrades, and productivity initiatives
  • Collaborate with machine tool builders, tooling suppliers, and external vendors to evaluate and implement technical solutions that improve process capability and reduce cost
  • Champion a Safety-First culture by ensuring all process changes and improvement activities support the Life Saving Rules
  • Support new product introduction and industrialization efforts, ensuring robust transition of manufacturing processes into production
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work 1st Shift (8am-4pm)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting CNC machining operations in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, qualifying, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for precision-machined components.
  • Experience troubleshooting machining processes, including tooling, workholding, machine performance, cutting parameters, and process capability issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manufacturing environment and influence outcomes without direct authority.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with CNC turning, drilling, grinding, milling, or broaching operations.
  • Experience manufacturing large, complex components with tight dimensional and geometric tolerances.
  • Experience supporting heavy industrial, aerospace, power generation, gas turbine, or rotating equipment manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, SPC, process capability analysis, control plans, and advanced manufacturing quality tools.
  • Experience utilizing OEE, Pareto analysis, and other manufacturing metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming, machining process development, cutting tool optimization, and tooling selection.
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects from concept through implementation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while balancing daily production support with long-term strategic initiatives.
