Location & Schedule 

The City and County of Denverutilizesa hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the community several days a week. In this position you can expect to work on site, three (3) days a week at: Wastewater Building, 2000 W 3rd Ave, Denver, CO 80223.

The Street Maintenance Division (SMD), is responsible for maintaining Denver’s transportation infrastructure, including pothole repair, street repaving, street sweeping, and snow removal. Managing over 2,150 miles of roadways and more than 5,000 alleys, the division ensures safe and efficient mobility for residents and visitors while supporting ongoing infrastructure improvements across the City. The Street Maintenance Engineering group (SMEng) is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our high performing team to support asset management and improvements associated with concrete and asphalt projects in the public right-of-way. 

 

Specifically, as the Staff Engineer you will: 

 

  • Utilize applicable codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to compliance work and perform management of civil engineering projects. 

  • Manage projects for street paving and concrete repair contracts including alleys, curb and gutter, and curb ramps. 

  • Utilize asset management software and applications to analyze and update infrastructure condition. 

  • Coordinate inventory and condition assessment of various transportation infrastructure assets. 

  • Serve as the point of contact for the City on project worksites, and coordinate the work of utility companies, other City departments, contractors, and sub-contractors throughout the duration of the project. 

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including citizens, regarding construction activities and provide information and updates to address issues and problems.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: 

  • Degree in Civil Engineering. 

  • Basic construction knowledge and experience. 

  • Wastewater drainage experience. 

  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. 

  • Asset Management experience. 

  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite, intermediate skills with Excel. 

  • Experience with databases and data analysis. 

  • Experience with ArcGIS. 

  • Working knowledge of curb ramp standards, regulations and specifications. 

  • Strong critical thinking skills and independent problem solving while being an integral team member. 

 

Required Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. 

  • Experience Requirement: None. 

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. 

  • License/Certifications: Certification as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) by successfully completing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) issued by a State licensing Board by the end of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
