Description
- Serve as Saturday Swim Class Supervisor for both Central Queens and Bayside.
- Provide operational support during aquatics programming throughout the week at Bayside High School and Queensborough Community College (QCC).
- Ensure programs operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Commonpoint standards.
- Monitor class quality, customer service, and instructor performance.
- Address parent concerns and assist with participant needs.
- Ensure proper pool setup, equipment organization, and overall facility readiness.
- Supervise swim instructors and assistant instructors.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluating instructional staff.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Promote consistent teaching standards while recognizing the successful practices unique to each location.
- Foster teamwork, communication, and professional development throughout the department.
- Teach assigned Learn-to-Swim, Fast Trac, private, and semi-private swim lessons as needed.
- Model high-quality instructional techniques and customer service.
- Assist with swimmer evaluations and class placement recommendations.
- Help strengthen the connection between all Aquatics locations by creating a seamless pathway throughout the Aquatics Department, from Learn-to-Swim through Fast Trac, Pre-Team, and the Aquaflames Swim Team.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Swim Coach to connect programming between Forest Hills, Bayside High School, and QCC.
- Support the recruitment of swimmers into advanced aquatics programs.
- Promote consistency in communication, participant experience, and instructional quality across all locations.
- Assist with scheduling instructors and class assignments.
- Schedule private lessons and manage instructor schedules.
- Assist with the administrative portion of Wavemakers
- Help coordinate program registrations and class placements.
- Monitor class enrollment and recommend program improvements.
- Assist with special events, evaluations, and community outreach.
- Ensure compliance with American Red Cross and Commonpoint policies.
- Develop systems and operational procedures that promote consistency throughout the Aquatics Department.
- Cross-train staff to improve flexibility and ensure uninterrupted program operations during vacations, illnesses, or leadership absences.
- Assist the Senior Director with implementing strategic initiatives that support long-term departmental growth and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory experience in aquatics, recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Exceptional administrative, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple programs, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace, scheduling software, registration databases, and the ability to quickly learn new technology platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional email correspondence, report preparation, scheduling, and record keeping.
- Experience teaching swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to supervise staff while maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
- American Red Cross First Aid.
- Lifeguard Certification (preferred).
