We are recruiting for an experienced Asset Manager to join a fast-growing organisation operating in the low-carbon energy sector. Reporting to the Director of Assets and Utilities, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development, mobilisation, construction, operation and ongoing optimisation of district heating and energy infrastructure projects.

This position is ideal for a highly organised, commercially minded professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys taking ownership of high-value infrastructure assets. The successful candidate will work across the full asset lifecycle, identifying opportunities to enhance performance, support network expansion, and maximise long-term value.

As part of a growing business, the role offers excellent scope for career development and increased responsibility.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • An effective communicator, comfortable engaging with colleagues, clients, stakeholders, consultants and contractors.
  • A confident relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and challenge constructively.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take ownership of complex projects and drive improvements.
  • Commercially aware, with experience interpreting financial models and assessing asset performance.
  • Passionate about delivering value through strategic asset management and continuous improvement.

The Role

The Asset Manager will take a leading role in managing the performance, optimisation and growth of a portfolio of district heating assets. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will oversee operational performance, customer relationships, contractual obligations and commercial outcomes, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in line with customer expectations.

The role also includes identifying opportunities for network expansion, improving asset performance and providing regular reporting on operational and financial KPIs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of new energy infrastructure projects through construction, mobilisation and operational phases.
  • Act as the senior relationship manager for customers, stakeholders and key project partners.
  • Work with development and connections teams to identify growth opportunities and support network expansion.
  • Manage contractual obligations and ensure compliance with customer agreements and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure assets operate in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
  • Monitor asset performance, analysing operational, commercial and financial data to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that improve operational efficiency and maximise asset value.
  • Maintain and review financial models, budgets and forecasts, comparing actual performance against business cases.
  • Produce regular reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing insight into performance and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead the development and delivery of value creation plans for individual assets.

Knowledge & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience managing energy infrastructure assets, ideally within district heating or a related sector.
  • A strong commercial background, including contract negotiation and contract administration.
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting, cost control, reporting and financial modelling.
  • A sound understanding of regulatory requirements, contractual obligations and industry best practice.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and delivering strategies that improve asset performance and support business growth.
  • An understanding of the technical and operational aspects of heat networks or similar infrastructure.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (such as the Institute of Asset Management) would be advantageous.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing abilities.
  • Exceptional organisational, planning and time management skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively across legal, technical and commercial teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to challenge performance using KPIs and operational data.
  • Results-driven, self-motivated and capable of working independently when required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Performance-related discretionary bonus.
  • Generous annual leave, with the option to buy or sell additional holiday.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Health and wellbeing support.
  • Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Company laptop and equipment provided.
  • Flexible working arrangements, with a commitment to supporting individual and business needs.
