Specific Country/Sector/department overview 

As a member of the WPM team the HSSE Manager will be responsible for deploying and supporting the JLL WPM health, safety and environmental risk management strategy. The role will be dedicated to managing HSSE matters on multiple client accounts (‘the Accounts’) in the investment management and financial services sector. The main function will be to enable the Accounts to comply with JLL, cultural, client and statutory requirements in its operations. The main location for the role is Kolkata and regular international travel will be expected.

 

Role Purpose 

•       To demonstrate leadership in health, safety and environmental issues, ensuring that the JLL HSSE Management System and Standards are applied across areas of responsibility;

•       To ensure alignment and compliance with all client HSSE policies and practice;

•       To facilitate the delivery and management of HSSE, supporting staff to achieve compliance and performance reporting against all  JLL & client-set HSSE metrics and KPI’s;

•       To support a programme for training, audit, measurement and reporting HSSE performance against agreed standards;

•       To promote a positive, proactive HSSE culture and to influence stakeholders;

•       To implement practical risk management strategies.

What this job involves 

The successful candidate will be required to:

•       Provide guidance and advice on health and safety risk management at all levels of the Accounts. 

•       Secure the development of a positive, proactive HSSE culture at all levels throughout the Accounts.

•       Support WPMs goals of achieving/maintaining ISO14001 & OHSAS18001/ISO45001 Standards.

•       Support work teams, to secure operational HSSE compliance, including providing support for HSSE audits and inspections as required.

•       Establish effective relationships and work closely and co-operatively with senior managers, Account teams, the client and contractors.

•       Deliver an HSSE training programme based on the JLL HSSE training model.

•       Keep abreast of legislation advice and to alert the account to such changes that will impact on the business.

•       As directed, produce and update policy proposals and procedural amendments as required reflecting changes in legislation, best practice or advice.

•       Support staff with the completion of HSSE risk assessments and the identification of appropriate control solutions.

•       Assist with investigations into specific incidents or accidents with a health & safety and/or environmental consequence and ensure appropriate records are maintained.

•       Coordinate the implementation of HSSE monitoring procedures that ensure the timely internal management reporting of performance.

•       Provide guidance to staff on how to obtain competent assessments of all health & safety and/or environmental risk and report on the control of that risk.

•       Analyse the results of the site audits and make regular reports to line management on HSSE risk management performance.

•       Identify, organise and attend appropriate HSSE communication forums. 

•       Assist the Supply Chain Management and Procurement (SCMP) team in approving and monitoring JLL Contractors.

•       Liaise with HSSE specialists elsewhere in JLL to ensure common standards of HSSE best practice are achieved throughout the company’s world-wide business.

•       Meet operational objectives as specified by the relevant business leaders. 

•       Meet personal objectives as stipulated within JLL’s Individual Performance Management Process.

•       Have a pragmatic and cost effective approach to HSSE management.

•       Identify conclusions or approaches to problems including strengths and weaknesses of existing systems and alternative solutions

•       Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.

•       Any other duties deemed appropriate to the role as determined by the Heads of HSSE and/or or the Account Directors.

•       JLL employees on the Accounts

•       JLL’s HSSE Management team

•       Good organisational skills with the ability to balance competing demands and to meet deadlines. • Strong business acumen

•       Ability to identify trends and identify the root causes of any problems.

•       Ability to carry out an audit and gather objective evidence through observation, interview and sampling of documents and records

Essential Criteria:

•       CMIOSH (Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) or GradIOSH (Graduate Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) or national equivalent.

•       Proven history of implementation of environmental, health and safety systems and processes.

•       Relevant HSSE experience in a similar environment.

•       Must be willing and able to travel internally as deemed necessary to fulfil the role. 

 

Desirable Criteria

•       A formal environmental management qualification is desirable.

•       H&S and/or Environmental Auditor Qualifications

•       Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment  (or equivalent) 

•       Previous experience of Facilities Management, financial services or client-facing roles (e.g. consultancy, enforcement, etc.)

•       Previous experience of working in a multi-country role

•       Additional language(s).
