About the Role:

The Associate Director, Project & Program Management (Product) is a strategic leadership role responsible for leading a team of Project and Program Managers and driving excellence across the Project Management Office (PMO). This role ensures the successful delivery of complex strategic initiatives while establishing project governance, standards, methodologies, and operating practices that enable scalable, predictable, and value-driven execution across the organization.

The Associate Director serves as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders, providing aligned project portfolio insights, risk transparency, resource planning, and governance oversight to support executive decision-making. The role is accountable for developing PMO capabilities, advancing organizational project management maturity, and ensuring strategic investments are aligned to business objectives and deliver measurable outcomes.

Job Qualifications

Education

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Operations, Technology, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) certification, SAFe Certification, Prosci Change Management Certification.

Minimum Experience:

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible project and program management experience.
  • 5+ years of direct people leadership experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale, cross-functional, strategic initiatives with significant organizational impact.
  • Experience establishing or leading PMO governance best practices, delivery methodologies, and portfolio management processes
  • Experience with full Product Development Lifecycle from Ideation through to Go-to-Market
  • Experience presenting to and influencing executive leadership.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. PowerBi).
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Project Management Software (Smartsheet, MS Project, Clarity, JIRA, Airtable, etc...)

Responsibilities:

PMO Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and develop a team of Project and Program Managers, improving delivery effectiveness, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Evolve the PMO vision, operating model, standards, methodologies, playbooks, tools, templates, training materials and governance framework in partnership with other PMO leaders to enhance delivery effectiveness, efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Serve as a champion for and promote adoption of consistent project, program, portfolio, and change management best practices across the organization.
  • Evaluate emerging methodologies, technologies, and tools to improve PMO effectiveness.
  • Drive organizational maturity across project delivery, governance, planning and execution disciplines.

Project Portfolio Governance & Delivery Execution

  • Oversee portfolios of strategic product initiatives, ensuring alignment with business strategy, organizational priorities, and capacity constraints.
  • Ensure projects and programs are governed consistently through approved frameworks, methodologies, and reporting structures.
  • Monitor project portfolio health, delivery performance, risks, dependencies, and resource utilization.
  • Partner with executive and functional leaders to prioritize initiatives and optimize investment decisions across aligned portfolios.
  • Escalate material risks, issues, and tradeoff decisions to leadership with clear recommendations and mitigation strategies.

Delivery Excellence

  • Ensure strategic product initiatives are delivered within approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and value realization expectations (from ideation through to go to market and customer adoption).
  • Provide leadership guidance and oversight on highly complex, cross-functional product related programs with significant business impact.
  • Establish performance metrics and delivery KPIs to evaluate project and portfolio effectiveness.
  • Monitor project execution, identify improvement opportunities, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, governance standards, and project lifecycle requirements.

Resource & Capacity Management

  • Partner with business and technology leaders to align project demand with organizational capacity.
  • Support resource planning, forecasting, and capacity management activities across the portfolio.
  • Optimize utilization of project management resources while balancing strategic priorities and business needs.
  • Influence resource allocation decisions across functions to support successful delivery outcomes.

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Build trusted partnerships with senior business and technology leaders across the organization.
  • Translate complex delivery, portfolio, and operational information into actionable executive insights.
  • Facilitate governance forums, steering committees, portfolio reviews, and executive decision-making discussions as needed.
  • Provide objective recommendations and strategic guidance regarding investment priorities, risks, and delivery performance.
  • Influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization to achieve alignment and drive successful outcomes.

Product Quarterly Planning and Financial Reporting Support

  • Partner with Product, Technology, Finance and Business leaders to facilitate Quarterly Product Planning processes, ensuring strategic initiatives, product investments, and delivery commitments are aligned to organizational priorities and capacity constraints
  • Support the planning and facilitation activities for Quarterly Product Reviews (QPRs), in partnership with Product leadership, Product Managers, Technology and Project Managers
  • Drive alignment between product strategy, outcome-based roadmaps, delivery plans, and resource capacity to enable effective execution within a product-centric operating model
  • Partner with Finance, Product and Portfolio Governance leadership to support portfolio financial management activities, including forecasting, budget tracking, capitalization oversight, investment reporting, and executive financial reviews.
  • Support the creation of business cases, funding requests, and investment recommendations by providing delivery, capacity, and financial insights that inform decision-making
  • Partner with Product and Finance teams to improve financial transparency across product portfolios, ensuring leaders have access to reliable investment, cost, and performance data to guide strategic decisions

Compensation:

$133,400.00 - $238,400.00 USD

 

This role is eligible for Bonus.

Compensation range listed is based on primary location of the position.  Actual base salary offer is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience and actual hiring location.
