We are looking for a specialized Legal Secretary to undertake a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. You will work under the supervision of an attorney and will also provide support in assigned legal cases. The goal is to sustain efficiency of all office procedures and case management so as to guarantee reliability and consistency.
Under general supervision, enhances attorney effectiveness by providing information and management support.
- Providing litigation support to Blight Attorneys including filing appearances and pleadings with Circuit Court.
- Filing appearances and pleadings with the City Of Detroit Department of Administrative Hearings.
- Assistance with data management including compiling pleadings, intra-departmental data, witness interviews and other litigation documents on City of Detroit technology platforms.
- High School diploma or GED and completion of a Legal Secretarial Training Program or other related training programs.
- Six months of clerical experience, preferable in a legal office.

- One year of progressive clerical experience in a legal environment, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Legal terminology and syntax, and of the content, organization, and format of legal documents and correspondence.
- Court and administrative systems rules and procedures.
- Office organization, workflow, and procedures.
SKILL IN:
- Use of personal computers, database, and spreadsheets.
- Preparing statistical reports.
- Information management.
ABILITY TO:
- Compose routine legal documents, letters, reports, and summaries of complex material.
- Proofread and edit routine correspondence and legal documents for proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation usage.
- Determine work priorities.
- Organize documents and files and handle changing priorities.
- Communicate effectively.
- Follow instructions.
- Maintain composure during stressful situations occurring because of workloads and/or deadlines.
- Effectively manage time
