About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Specialist, Risk and Compliance; Location – Melbourne, VIC for a Permanent -Full-time opportunity.
Purpose of the Role:
Provide specialist expertise in risk, compliance, insurance, and business resilience by supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of The Salvation Army’s governance frameworks. The role translates strategic requirements into practical solutions, guidance, and capability-building initiatives, while leading assurance, reporting, and improvement activities and providing functional leadership to support effective team performance and organisational maturity.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation, review and continuous improvement of the teams’ frameworks, processes, systems and supporting documentation.
Provide specialist advice and technical guidance to support the consistent and practical application of team artifacts.
Lead the analysis of compliance breaches, insurance claims and other risk events to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Conduct reviews and assessments to support the development, implementation and monitoring of corrective and preventative actions.
Monitor legislative, regulatory and industry developments and assess impacts on organisational obligations, frameworks and practices.
Lead the preparation, review and analysis of reports, dashboards and insights to support decision making and governance forums.
Lead and facilitate risk assessments, workshops, reviews and business continuity activities across the organisation.
Develop and deliver training, awareness and capability-building activities that strengthen organisational understanding.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders to support capability and framework application.
Provide specialist functional leadership, mentoring, quality assurance and work coordination, while acting as the primary technical resource and escalation point for complex matters.
Education and Qualifications Required:
Tertiary qualification in risk management, compliance, governance or a related discipline.
Professional certification (or progress towards certification) in risk, compliance, governance or business continuity is highly desirable.
Experience implementing and improving risk, compliance, insurance or governance frameworks in a complex organisation.
Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills, including facilitating workshops and providing specialist advice.
Experience leading reviews, assessments and continuous improvement initiatives, with the ability to mentor, coach and develop others.
Requirements of the role:
Valid driver's license
Current and valid Working with Children Check
Criminal History check (police check)
